For my March Sunscreen Madness month I reviewed Bl For my March Sunscreen Madness month I reviewed Black-owned natural/vegan spf @unsuncosmetics on the blog (the owner also happens to be Frank Ocean’s mom if you’re a fan of his music) - Black owned UNSUN is a natural mineral tinted sunscreen that’s designed to color correct, prime and moisturize all skin tones. Their Mineral Tinted Face Sunscreen comes in two shades – Light/Medium and Medium/Dark. Unsun was created by a need for clean sunscreen products for women of color, and the brand is heavily focused on being inclusive. UNSUN is formulated with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide and nourishing fruit extracts like Tangerine Fruit Extract, Beet Root Extract, Bitter Orange Fruit Extract and Cucumber Fruit Extract. The Light/Medium shade is designed to match the lightest skin tones all the way to medium. The tint is so cool toned I thought it would be a mismatch for my skin, but it surprisingly rubs in very sheer. With one thin layer, I can’t even detect any added tint to my olive-toned skin after I apply this and my skin looks like its natural bare self. I get a demi-matte finish with a soft glow but with a second re-application my skin has a dewy finish and some more coverage. I love the @nowfoodsofficial liquid fractionated coconut oil in place of regular coconut oil because of how lightweight and non greasy it is, mixed with almond oil, vitamin E oil and a scrub to manually exfoliate my scalp. You can also add #essentialoils known to help hair & scalp health like Lavender, Sage, Lemongrass etc. Exfoliating the scalp helps get rid of build-up and dead skin so ingredients can penetrate better. Hair health begins at the root, so it should not be neglected. . I do oil treatments at least once per week and now that I never go anywhere I leave it in for days at a time, which has made a difference in my hair health. I can tell by the way my hair airdries. We were hit financially by Coronavirus, so the extra work could not have come at a better time. This is why I think it’s important to stay relevant professionally, diversify and work on your skills. I got a little fed up with the freelance way of working at the end of last year. No health insurance, no human interaction except by phone..and I started getting interviews with UBS Switzerland and a few tech companies and then the virus hit. But I’m glad I tried out freelancing, because who knows if I’d have been let go if I were working somewhere. Blogging on its own is such a weird job. It can be super fun, but it’s also so much hustle (keeping up with your blog, youtube, pinterest, tiktok, instagram is INSANE) and honestly you don’t earn that much..that’s why bloggers hustle so hard to constantly create content. Doing social media for brands, I’ve been able to see what everyone’s rates are and it’s all over the board. I see bloggers with huge followings charging way too little and ones with small followings charging over-the-top prices. I know that you can work with the BIGGEST names in beauty like Huda beauty and it can be a gigantic flop with few conversions. 🤥And so many People will tag us as a “paid partnership with” when no money transactions were made. If you look closely it’s filled with questionable ingredients like BHT, PEG, tocopherol acetate, disodium EDTA... . Nearly 70% of sunscreens out there are a SCAM - studies by EWG found most to be harmful or ineffective. 💰So people are paying their hard-earned dollars for sunscreen that ⛔️doesn’t even work AND risks theirs & their families’ health. The FDA Reported last year that ingredients in sunscreens get absorbed by our skin, then enter and accumulate in our bloodstream.🗣Their results showed that when sunscreen is applied to the skin, even with a single application, all active ingredients were absorbed into volunteers' bloodstreams at ❗️levels exceeding the safety-testing mark. This year, they published their ☀️2nd sunscreen study☀️ where they tested 3 more ingredients and came out with the same results. When people say skin can’t absorb ingredients, they are sorely mistaken! . . All these brands like Banana Boat, Neutrogena and Coppertone are some of the worst sunscreens you can buy. Basic sunscreens are filled with these toxins: -Oxybenzone, which is linked to hormone disruption and cell damage that may lead to skin cancer. -Retinyl palmitate, which has now been proven to be a carcinogen. -Octyl-methoxycinnamate causes oxidation damage of the skin, which means aging -Butyl-Methdiebenzoylmethane, releases free radicals into the body. -Benzophenone 2 (BP2), decreases the function of the thyroid - BHT: Long-term exposure to high doses of BHT was shown to cause liver, thyroid and kidney problems in mice. It can sometimes act as a tumour promoter & some evidence suggests that high doses may mimic estrogen, and affect the reproductive system. . If I can get ☝️more person to say they are going to stop buying these, the time I spent doing this post will have been worth it! . Super emollient, rich and nourishing, with a scent of cherry and a brightening tint to it. . ☀️@zatiknaturals is one that took me a while to love, but I like the gummy lotion texture. It’s hard to describe, but gummy seemed to be the best word.
