As I sit writing this with snowflakes swirling outside the window, it’s hard to imagine the warmth of the sun in the above photo. I wanted to give this natural toothpaste a thorough test out before sharing my thoughts, so several months on and one empty jar later here we are. I have used a fluoride and sulphate free toothpaste for years as my skin is incredibly sensitive and would actually burn if some of the foam from traditional versions touched my skin. Unfortunately the brand I used comes in a plastic tube and as I would like to move towards more sustainable living (however long it may take me), I started looking for a alternative.
Enter Truthpaste, a clay-based mineral toothpaste made in the UK and in a glass jar with a metal lid. Marisa, the founder and creator of Truthpaste, came up with this formula after suffering from an horrendous toothache which involved a trip to an emergency dentist, eventually turning to her bathroom cupboards for natural relief after the painkillers wore off.
I love that is free from sulphates, fluoride, palm oil, artificial colours, emulsifiers and glycerin. It is also vegan and cruelty free. Some of the wonderful, beneficial imgredients it does contain include neem (antiseptic, anti_inflammatory), aloe vera (soothing, antibacterial), myyrrh (antiseptic), peppermint, cinnamon and lemon (breath freshening) and bentonite clay (absorbs toxins). For a full list of ingredients see below. It comes in two flavours, Peppermint and Wintergreen which I tried as I love a minty taste and Fennel.
