Unfortunately I didn’t get on with this product. It’s an extremely solid balm that just wouldn’t melt in to my skin at all, I have a feeling it would be better suited to warmer climates – I’m based in the UK and our summer sun was not enough to soften this balm up! Due to this, I wouldn’t feel comfortable relying on this product as I don’t think I could evenly spread it. I have read that it can be mixed with coconut oil to ease with spreading but this doesn’t particularly appeal to me – I’m not sure how it would impact the effectiveness of the SPF and I don’t like using coconut oil on my skin anyway. It’s a shame as the texture of this balm isn’t sticky like most suncreams, plus it smells much nicer (a mild chocolate scent), and the tin it comes in is nice and could be easily re-used.
In all honesty, this was such a hassle to use. I love that it’s natural and has great sun protection but for someone that has acne prone skin the cocoa butter will clog pores. On top of that, it was really hard to work with. Being a Latina that is on the lighter end I thought this would work. It did not, I looked ghostly. My husband was even worst. He tested it out in preparation for his soccer match and he looked like he was wearing a mask. It is also such a hassle to wash off. Unfortunately it did not work for me
I love the idea of this product, the physical filter being a big plus, but being packaged in a tin and not in stick form I think it works better in warm climates where you don’t have to work quite so hard to get the hardened product out and on to your body/face. It’s a good sun block for those places that are extra prone to sunburn, like your nose on active days spent outside. I heard they are coming out with more shades and that’s also good because this gives a hint of greyish colour, although that is possible to work around. It’s also a product that’s easy to take with you. I would give this a much higher rating, but a good sunscreen is one you use often, and since I don’t seem to reach for this as much as I do my other sunscreens I’m not giving this a full score.
