Unfortunately I didn’t get on with this product. It’s an extremely solid balm that just wouldn’t melt in to my skin at all, I have a feeling it would be better suited to warmer climates – I’m based in the UK and our summer sun was not enough to soften this balm up! Due to this, I wouldn’t feel comfortable relying on this product as I don’t think I could evenly spread it. I have read that it can be mixed with coconut oil to ease with spreading but this doesn’t particularly appeal to me – I’m not sure how it would impact the effectiveness of the SPF and I don’t like using coconut oil on my skin anyway. It’s a shame as the texture of this balm isn’t sticky like most suncreams, plus it smells much nicer (a mild chocolate scent), and the tin it comes in is nice and could be easily re-used.

In all honesty, this was such a hassle to use. I love that it’s natural and has great sun protection but for someone that has acne prone skin the cocoa butter will clog pores. On top of that, it was really hard to work with. Being a Latina that is on the lighter end I thought this would work. It did not, I looked ghostly. My husband was even worst. He tested it out in preparation for his soccer match and he looked like he was wearing a mask. It is also such a hassle to wash off. Unfortunately it did not work for me

I love the idea of this product, the physical filter being a big plus, but being packaged in a tin and not in stick form I think it works better in warm climates where you don’t have to work quite so hard to get the hardened product out and on to your body/face. It’s a good sun block for those places that are extra prone to sunburn, like your nose on active days spent outside. I heard they are coming out with more shades and that’s also good because this gives a hint of greyish colour, although that is possible to work around. It’s also a product that’s easy to take with you. I would give this a much higher rating, but a good sunscreen is one you use often, and since I don’t seem to reach for this as much as I do my other sunscreens I’m not giving this a full score.

I have another competitor product to this one that I had already been using, and this one just does not measure up. While it smells divine, using it is difficult, at best. It is thick and does not become spreadable even when warming in your hands. This makes it difficult to put on your face. Additionally, when using on your face, it leaves a very chalky white caste that makes you not want to go out in public. I am giving it two stars because it is eco conscious and good for the environment. But, other than that, I have not been able to bring myself to use it more than two times, then I gave up.

This sunscreen smells like a chocolate treat and the packaging is beautiful and can be re-used once it is done. While I love the concept, unfortunately, this sunscreen is not for me. I live in Canada and have dry skin. I felt that it was near impossible to get this to spread onto my skin without rubbing it it excessively. I have tried using this during a hot summer day and it was equally difficult to spread onto my skin. For this reason alone, I would not purchase this product in the future.

anonymous

Pros: Smells unbelievably good like chocolate, doesn’t leave a white cast on the skin and is safe and natural. Cons: in the UK this remains solid and is so hard to use, almost impossible. It tugs at my skin as I can’t blend it in, then I have to use so much product because it just won’t spread, by the time I’ve finished applying to my arms it’s been over half an hour. Also although this doesn’t leave a white cast because of the tanned colour on my very fair skin this can look patchy if not blended enough. Skin feels sticky for a long time after application. Overall, I think for me it’s not worth the time and effort to apply, great concept but perhaps best suited to hot climates.

anonymous

I was confused whether the product was for the face or the body. Since there was no indication, I figured it could be used for both. The product itself was extremely hard to use. Application was a bit tough and the product wasn’t easy to spread. When I used it on my face, it was way too greasy. I’ve only used it a few times and haven’t gone back since I other products that apply much better. I think like the other reviewers say, if this was in stick form it would be much easier to use. It smells great though!

anonymous

I loved the smell and the fact that it did not turn my skin white. It was very hard to get out of the tin so I would only ever use it on my face not the rest of my body. I would love to try it again if they made it easier to apply.

anonymous

My initial impressions were 1. How compact the container was which would be great for slipping it into my bag and 2. The delicious chocolate scent! I used it for about a month. Although I never experienced any sunburn which made me think the product worked well, I also thought it was tough to spread on my skin. I have combination skin which is more on the dry side and I thought it highlighted a lot of my dry patches even after moisturizing. I wanted to love it, but my skin texture just didn’t work well with it.

anonymous

Well, I unfortunately didn’t get to see how it faired in the sun. It was extremely solid which made it hard to get enough out of the tin for my whole face. I would try this again if they made it in stick form.

anonymous

I like that this product is all natural and reef safe and everything but it is a tiny jar that is almost completely solid– meaning you have to rub it a lot before you can apply it. Also, when applied it was very thick and white. Because of this I thought it could be a really good sunblocking chapstick (just make sure you rub it in so you don’t have white lips). I would be willing to try this sunscreen in a different form maybe. I only really used it a few times, and like I said I liked it best on the beach as chapstick.

anonymous

I was very excited to try this product, but my excitement was quickly replaced with a frustration. The product is really thick and solid in texture making it nearly impossible to get this spread onto my skin without rubbing it in, the grayish color makes it also very unattractive looking on the skin. The plus side is a nice smell and that the product is natural without a nasty chemicals.

anonymous

I loved the color, smell and ingredients list. The only deterrent for me was the ease of application, getting it out of the tin was a struggle and if it was in some sort of twist up packaging to aid in the accessibility that would be

I was lucky enough to be picked as a tester for this sunscreen and it came in a small compact tin, which makes it easy to slip into your bag without worrying about a pump that could get messy. First thing I noticed was the pleasant smell! It smelled like delicious chocolate. It takes a bit of rubbing to get it on your fingers to apply. And once on your face, it takes some massaging to get the sunscreen blend in. I’ve noticed that when I applied oil serums on my face first that the sunscreen was easier to apply and blend in. Regardless of whether I used oil serums or not, the sunscreen does leave you glowing (mind you I have fair skin so it doesn’t leave much of a white cast). Some people may consider it oily, but pat it on some matte powder and you’ll be good to go. Overall, I felt like it provided the sun protection I needed, but needs to be made easier to apply without the use of oils. I found sometimes I tugged my skin a bit too roughly just to get it to blend in. I think with the use of oils first then the sunscreen, it’s a pretty nice product.

anonymous

The packaging is on point and smells so good…but it was very hard to apply. You really have to warm the product by rubbing your fingers in the product to get it warmed. It usually took a few minutes so you can’t be in a hurry and it’s sorta sticky when you are applying it to your skin!

anonymous

At first when I looked at it, I was like hmmm.. Smells chocolate with some butter in it and zinc. I have to say using it at first it was hard to spread but by warming it with heat it will spread easiest. I enjoyed this product but it was time consuming with put it on. Price, shipping & handling would be pricey.

anonymous

This sunscreen had a very nice smell to it. It smells like a cross between a chocolate chip cookie and a coconut cookie. The sunscreen was very effective at blocking the sun. It is also a very thick formula so not really suitable for my face. I had some issues with my skin feeling congested during/after using this. It was very good for the shoulders/neck/arm area though. However, it has a brownish tint that was a little too dark for my light skin so it sort of looked like I was pretty dirty. I would prefer a version that does not have any Cacao powder in it so I can match my skintone better.

anonymous

It works great in the sun… the only complaint is it’s hard to apply. You really have to keep rubbing the product for it to warm to be able to apply to the skin. It was easier to apply to the face as it took so long to get the product.

anonymous

I was looking forward to trying out this natural sunscreen as it is filled with great ingredients. I was pleased with the results – the sunscreen effectively protected me against a sunburn. Areas of my body where I had not applied the sunscreen did burn, while the areas where I had applied the sunscreen did not burn. My only major complaint with this product is the texture. The sunscreen is extremely thick and does not spread easily which made the application difficult. I ended up having to mix it with a bit of sunscreen oil in order for it to spread evenly. Other than that, I really appreciate that it is a physical sunscreen that is reef safe and eco conscious. As an added bonus, it smells a bit like chocolate so it’s nice that it doesn’t have that “sunscreen smell”.

anonymous

This product smells amazing, like chocolate dessert. It does a really good job of protecting against the sun but its a very difficult formula to spread even. You really have to work hard to get it even. I wore this on a long walk/hike in the park and a couple of times just on a normal day of shopping. I like that it has allot of cacao powder so it doesnt go on white. Skin feels very smooth and not sticky. I have normal to dry skin on my body (did not try this on my face, too thick for the city) Maybe this product would work better as a stick or make it a bit softer. Great product but its not the one i grab when i need an spf due to the thick formula.

I tested this product out at a water park in Texas in a sunny summer day. I loved the fact that the container was portable. I put it in my pool bag and didn’t have to worry about it leaking. Unlike several of the reviewers, I didn’t have problems getting it out of the container. I’m guessing the Texas heat helped make it easier to apply. Right away, I noticed the chocolately scent. If you like chocolate, then you will like the scent of this product. My two complaints about the product application are that when I applied it, the texture was sticky, but also grainy. I could see some larger chocolate granules that didn’t blend into the product. In addition to the grainy texture, the product looked grey on my warm fair complexion. I managed I wear the product for several hours and the product held up to the water and the sun. However, I had a hard time wearing the product for hours. Because the product never soaks into the skin/sits on the skin my face felt slightly itchy, my hair kept getting stuck in the sticky product when the wind blew, and I smeared the product around because I constantly touch my face. I remember having the same problem with the Zinka in the 80s, which this product reminded me of while wearing it. Ultimately, I would not use the product again. However, I would be open to trying I again if the company could get the product formula to be less sticky. Pros: Blocks the Sun, Long Lasting Protection, Natural/Minimal Ingredients, and lovely chocolate scent! Cons: Greyish Tint, Noticeable, Grainy, Sticky, Smears Easily, and Slightly Itchy (My skin is super sensitive.)

I have to stay true to myself here and not sugar coat things here, I didn’t get on with this product. And I have really tried. Many times. It is extremely solid (I live in cold and rainy Ireland) product which was a nightmare to spread, and I must admit I didn’t get to test it’s sun shielding properties at all, as I didn’t get a chance to. Summer is non existent this year I am afraid. I appreciate a good physical sun block, but due to it being so hard to use I wouldn’t purchase it. It is made in Australia, and shipping to IE is expensive, far exceeding the price of the product; and I am afraid this product didn’t impress me enough to shell out my hard earned cash for it. Sorry, just being honest!

anonymous

The packaging and smell of the product is amazing! I loved finding a natural sunscreen. It was hard for me to tell if this was for face or body. I used it on my face whichs it did work well…. the product was very hard to spread so I didn’t try to use on my body! I wish it would have been easier to spread but it did work well on my face.

anonymous

I absolutely love the smell of this sunscreen! That is what initially sold me on it. I then used it on my face for a long day at the beach and did not burn at all, so that also passed the test! The only complaint I have is the application. Given that it is such a solid consistency, it would almost be more functional if it was in a stick form to spread on your skin. The tin makes it a little difficult when the product is so solid. As other testers mentioned, I too was concerned about the product turning into liquid if I left it out at the beach, which was another reason why I did not purchase the product. All in all, I loved the smell, and efficacy. The product application is the only place that could use improvement!

This is a tinted all day suncare that is a natural physical barrier for skin shielding against the elements. They suggest to re-apply every 4 hours. Made with 40% non nano zinc oxide, local beeswax, certified organic and fair trade olive oil, coconut oil, cacao powder, and cacao butter. No fillers or preservatives. With all these natural ingredients, I feel great that this product is reef safe. This product is hard to dispense, and apply. It really needs to be warmed up to get any product by just rubbing your fingers on it until you get product. It definitely is tinted, because it left my face ashy, and slightly tacky, which is due to the zinc oxide and cacao powder. I have oily/combination skin, and this product did not cause any breakouts. I do love the smell of cacao powder in this product. I even apply this on my lips, if I don’t have an SPF lip balm. I love the portability, and convenience of this, it doesn’t take up much space like other sunscreens. It comes in a palm sized tin.

anonymous

First impression: small but handy packaging. Smells really good, like cacao. My skintype: fair, oily combination skin. I used the product during the summer months. As the consistency is very thick and kind of sticky, I would not use it all over my body/face, but since the container is rather small I don’t think that would be the purpose of the product either, though a little goes a long way. I experienced that it felt OK to use it on my upper lip and on places where I’d gotten sunburnt as the SPF is high. The label doesn’t say what SPF it is, which personally I think is a bit negative. But after I tried it a few times, I found out that it must be somewhere near 50. Be aware that your skin will look a bit grey if you dont blend it out well. I experienced that it got easier to blend out when the weather is hot. Over all I think the product is okay and I liled it, but I probably wouldn’t purchased it next time I need a sun block.

anonymous

Loved the smell of this sunscreen. Wa’s a bit time-consuming to apply since it comes in solid form, but liked the fact that the product contains natural ingredients.

anonymous

It’s natural. Safe. And smells delicious! With that aside, I’m going to be honest with you. It’s not exactly a breeze to use. You have to work to get the stuff out of the tin. Then you have to work to warn it up to be able to apply evenly (we had some funny splotchy tan lines where we applied). But it WORKS. The safety factor is big priority of mine, so I’m willing to sacrifice super convenience if it means using a non-toxic product on the body’s biggest organ.

anonymous

I have combo skin that tends to be dry and this sunscreen worked great to moisturize my skin while blocking rays. I used this while spending many days outside building fences and never got sunburned. I have tan skin and this did leave a white cast on my face. The consistency is not easy to smear and I had to rub it in pretty hard to blend. Overall this sunscreen works well. My sister even claimed it helped calm her acneic skin.

anonymous

I am always on the search for an organic sunscreen that works. First off, I love the scent. A tropical blend of cacao butter, cacao powder and coconut oil that instantly transport me to an exotic island. I like the fact that the ingredients are kept to a bare minimal. No chemicals or preservatives. I am very active. Love being outdoors. This sunscreen does hold up and prevented me from getting burnt. The only thing that I did not like about this sunscreen is that it was a little difficult to apply it. It is a hard paste so for places like the shoulders, arms or legs, it is fine. More delicate areas I feel that it dragged a bit too much. I wish the texture would be softer. But overall, I do love it.

anonymous

This is an adorable packaged sunblock that smells delicious! So I live in Phoenix ,AZ and sunblock is part of my daily routine. I’m always in search of a non chemical sunscreenthat doesn’t leave a white cast. This product is great -no white ghost face! However it’s a bit hard to apply directly out of the tin, so I used a clean craft stick (popsicle stick) to scoop and allowed it to warm in my hands to apply evenly. Love it!

anonymous

Because of my dark complexion, I’ve found most natural sunscreens usually give me a white cast that is unflattering. With the added cocoa powder that gives it the yummy scent and its tint, using this on my face blends in with my skin tone nicely. You do have to warm it up by rubbing it a little with your fingertips to get the product out of the tin, but it wasn’t too difficult for me to get enough product out. I’ve only used it on my face and so far so good. It does great blocking the sun and it smells so yummy!

anonymous

As someone who loves natural products with clean ingredients I have to say that this product is both natural and has only six clean ingredients (all of which I can recognize and pronounce). This product is slightly tinted and since I have fair/light skin it worked well for me although if you have medium or dark skin I think it may be too light and leave a white cast on your skin. I love the smell of this product and it does offer great sun protection, however I did not reach for it as often as my other sun protection products because of the difficult application. I live in Canada and it is very dry here so I found it difficult to spread the product onto my skin. Due to this reason, I often just used this a spot treatment for extra sun protection on areas like my nose and shoulders throughout the day. I will continue to use this product in the future but would prefer it to be a little easier to apply.

anonymous

The product was a little hard to get out initially. It’s a great sunscreen alternative, but prepare for it to look white on skin.

anonymous

The first thing I noticed upon opening the tin was the delicious smell, just like coconut rough chocolate. This zinc is quite a solid product (great for not over-applying and wasting the product), but applies easily and feels quite soft and velvety once on the skin. Being zinc it doesn’t blend completely into the skin, however it’s matt finish is non greasy and relatively skin-toned in colour. Perfect for all those outdoor adventures!

anonymous

I really enjoyed this product. I’m always trying to find a good natural SPF and this one passed the test. It smells awesome, just like chocolate (due to the cocoa butter). And I liked the tinted factor to it because I have an olive/tan skin tone. I also tried it on my boyfriend (caucasian skin tone, burns easily). He loved it. It took a little extra rubbing in and it got on dark clothes if we weren’t careful. However, he didn’t burn AT ALL! And normally, with the natural sunscreens, he’ll burn after a couple hours. This one protected him, and allowed him to get a nice tan instead.

I have normal to dry skin. I used this product on my vacation for a week in the Bahamas. I adore the smell, chocolate! Non-oily which is great for most skin types. Goes on as if it’s a moisturizer. However, I did wish it came in another form of packaging. It’s difficult to get the product out because it has to soften with your body temperature. I would have preferred a body stick so that it can be directly applied to the skin. Overall I LOVE this product.

anonymous

I did receive this for testing, but would have bought it on my own. My sister, her son, and I all love the product. I have dry skin, she has sensitive combo skin, and he’s 4 years old. The formula works so well at protecting you from the sun. I love that the ingredients are kept to what is only necessary. There are only 5-6 ingredients. It does seem thick in the container, but if you use the body heat in your fingers to warm it up, it applies just like a moisturizer. Unlike most Zinc products, the cacao powder tints the product a light beige instead of a bright white. It makes it much more wearable and gives it delicious slightly sweet scent. It is water resistant for a good 45 min, which is great. It’s a product we used at the beach and other long days in the sun. For us, it’s not an everyday product, but one for those days you need extra protection. Great product! So glad OBL gave me the chance to try this!

anonymous

I actually loved the product! Yes, the application is a little hard as the product is solid but when you get a grip on it and when your hands are warm it will get easier. When I was using the product I did not get any sunburn at all and the best part was the amazing chocolate smell! My every holiday’s struggle are sunburned lips and no lipbalm helped me prevent this, however when I applied this Australian magic in the morning I was safe the whole day – even after swimming, diving, etc all day. I am very pleased with it and I have used it on my face and body without any problems and I got all day sunblock protection. The only downside is that you are a little white when you apply it but it is okay ? if you don’t want to use it on all your body I would definitely recommend to use it at least on your face! Love! ❤️

anonymous

I’ve been using Sun & Earth Natural Zinc Sunscreen on my face (normal skin) daily for a couple of weeks now and used it while I was on vacation in Cancun. It smells amazing and provided good coverage so I never got burned. The paste consistency takes a little getting use to but it was overall easy to apply and did not make my face feel greasy. With only five ingredients total, you really cannot get more natural than that. And the cacao gives you a bit of a tint, so I’d consider this a tinted sunscreen.

I also loved the packaging. The cute little tin makes it ideal to carry everywhere and especially when you’re on vacation.

I would definitely recommend this to my family and friends. I know this brand is from Australia (and I’m in the U.S.)… I hope it is made available for me to purchase from here!

Thank you for the opportunity to test this amazing product.

The Sun & Earth Natural Zinc sunscreen works remarkably well on my combination type skin given the fact that I applied it before a whole day of working outside gardening. The smell is amazing and the ingredients are perfect, but the one thing I had trouble with was the amount of time it takes to apply the product on the skin. I probably took 10 minutes or so just rubbing it all over because it was slightly dry and needed to be warmed up first. I also did not notice any sunburn after being in the sun all day! Overall, I could use this again and again with the assurance of nontoxic ingredients and how well it kept my skin protected from the harsh sun!
