Mad Hippie Skincare Review 2024

Based out of Portland, Mad Hippie Skincare was started by husband-wife duo Sam and Dana who believe in all natural simplicity. They take responsibility for the planet seriously and use BPA-free, fully recyclable airless pumps, print solely with soy inks and run the entire facility off alternative energy. Mad Hippie is often underrated and overlooked as a grocery store skincare brand but they’re actually packed with plenty of actives. I’ve tried the Mad Hippie Vitamin C serum, Nutrient Mist and Cleanser and am sharing my thoughts in this Mad Hippie Review.

Mad Hippie vitamin c serum

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum $27

This is a product that people either tell me they love or hate. If you’re looking for high potency Vitamin C then I would suggest looking into mid-range and luxury Vitamin C serums as a budget one will not be as effective. For some this serum really helps their skin, so if it’s something you’re interested in I’d suggest starting with their travel size.

The formula contains Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate as their Vitamin C of choice, Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid along with some botanicals. It has a hydrating lightweight feel and is a water-based serum.

I wasn’t too impressed by this serum, but I can see it being suitable for a skincare beginner or young skin.

Ingredients: Water Deionized, Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate), Alkyl Benzoate, Vegetable Glycerin, Water, Glycerin, Sodium Levulinate, Sodium Anisate, Clary Sage (Salvia Sclarea), Grapefruit (Citrus Grandis), Hyaluronic acid, Amorphophallus Konjac Root Powder, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf, Vitamin E (Tocotrienol), Ferulic acid, Chamomile Flower Extract (Recutita Matricaria), Sodium Phytate, Xanthan Gum, Hydroxyethylcellulose

Mad Hippie Jelly Cleanser

Mad Hippie Jelly Cleanser

The Mad Hippie Jelly Cleanser is an interesting cleanser for those of you who dare to try something different and don’t have sensitive skin. Practically a cleansing balm & face wash in one, this is a mildly acidic jelly-to-milk cleanser that removes makeup, pollution, excess oil and grime and gives skin a burst of antioxidants with Kakadu Plum Fruit Extract, Acai Fruit, Resveratrol, Sodium PCA, Sea Buckthorn Berry, Rose, White Tea, and Chamomile.

Mad Hippie cleanser

While Mad Hippie named it a Jelly Cleanser, it’s actually more of a petroleum jelly not a fluffy jelly that feels like you’re applying a gel vaseline onto your face. Once dampened with water it emulsifies and turns milky. You’ll feel a refreshing (or unenjoyable depending on your personal preference) tingle after drying your face. Mad Hippie Jelly Cleanser is $17.99.

Hydrating Nutrient Mist

I found the formulation impressive for the price (under $18 on Amazon) but found the spray displeasing. It was very odd and I don’t know if it’s just a faulty packaging batch I got, but it would come out slightly sputtery and sort of frothy  – hard to explain. But it was not a pleasant relaxing mist. A simple fix is to just decant the product into another empty spray bottle that would allow it to spray out nicer.

The Nutrient Mist is packed with skin-beneficial ingredients:

  • Vitamin C
  • Sodium Hyaluronate
  • Hesperidin – A plant flavonoid that has been shown to help reduce the appearance of skin discoloration
  • Sodium PCA – A naturally occurring humectant, Sodium PCA helps bind moisture to the skin, dramatically improving skin hydration.
  • Milk Thistle – Consists of about 80% silymarin and 20% fatty acids, including linoleic acid
  • Ginkgo Biloba
  • Resveratrol – Super potent antioxidant known for its anti-aging benefits
  • Green Tea
  • White Pine Bark – Naturally aids in skin hydration while working to reduce the appearance of skin discoloration
  • Pomegranate Seed Extract

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate), Glycerin, Sodium PCA, White Tea (Camellia Sinensis Extract), Hyaluronic Acid (Sodium Hyaluronate), Ferulic Acid, Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract), Hesperidin, Grape Seed Extract (Vitis Vinifera), Ginkgo Biloba Extract, Pomegranate Seed (Punica Granatum Seed Extract), Resveratrol, Phenethyl Alcohol, Steam Distilled Lime (Citrus Aurantifolia Extract), Sorbitan Oleate Decylglucoside Crosspolymer, Caprylyl Glycol, Beta-Glucan, N-Acetyl D Glucosamine, Ethylhexyl Glycerin, White Pine (Pinus Stobus Bark Extract), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Japanese Pagoda Tree (Sophora Japonica Fruit Extract), Milk Thistle (Silybum Marianum Fruit Extract), Alpha Lipoic Acid
