natural body lotion with organic ingredients

I tried Natural Body Lotion (here’s what I liked best)

I’ve tried dozens of natural body lotions over the years and am sharing my thoughts. These are a game changer for dry skin and provide long-lasting moisture using clean ingredients without the toxins.

The best non toxic body lotions will be free of petroleum derived ingredients, parabens, phthalates, chemical fragrance, mineral oils and synthetic colors.

best natural body lotion
  • Best natural body lotion for dry skin: OSEA Undaria Algae Body Butter
  • Best natural body lotion on a budget: Derma E Hydrating Shea Body Lotion
  • Best clean Cerave dupe: Necessary The Body Lotion
  • Best luxury body lotion: Red Flower Arctic Berry Cloud Cream

Ingredients to avoid in body lotion

  • Parabens: Preservatives linked to hormone disruption.
  • Phthalates: Chemicals that may affect reproductive health.
  • Sulfates (SLS/SLES): Harsh detergents that can strip moisture.
  • Fragrance: Often contains allergens and irritants.
  • Alcohol (SD alcohol, isopropyl alcohol): Can be drying and irritating.
  • Mineral Oil: Can clog pores and cause breakouts.
  • Formaldehyde (and releasers): A known carcinogen and skin irritant.
  • Triclosan: Antibacterial agent linked to antibiotic resistance.
  • Synthetic Colors (D&C, FD&C): Can irritate sensitive skin and cause allergic reactions.
  • Toluene: A solvent that may disrupt hormonal balance.

Ingredients I love seeing in natural and organic body lotions include aloe (bonus points if aloe is the first ingredient!), hyaluronic acid, and even Bakuchiol. And of course, vibrant plant oils teeming with the best nutrients Mother Nature has to offer. Check out these top non toxic body lotions without harmful chemicals – because your body needs love too.

Why I switched to nontoxic body lotion

Most body lotions on the market are a synthetic cocktail made with petroleum derived ingredients (yuck). I don’t care how much you refine petroleum, I’m not going to apply that from head to toe!

I created the above ingredients list comparison between the wildly popular eos body lotion versus the Derma e body lotion. They both cost about the same $11. The eos lotion contains petroleum-based ingredients (petrolatum and mineral oil) plus a ton of fragrance (the higher up on the ingredients list the more of it the product contains). For the same price, Derma E does not include petroleum-based ingredients and a safer fragrance at the bottom of the list.

Best Non Toxic Body Lotion Compared

organic body lotion with clean and natural ingredients

I have found Necessaries to the best natural dupe to Cerave. Plus it’s a little more luxurious and sophisticated! The Necessaire Body Lotion is made with multivitamins for the skin and contains conditioning peptides. The lotion feels hydrating and doesn’t feel like it just sits on top of my skin. It sinks in well and is super smooth and silky. Overall a pleasant body lotion and the fragrance free version is fantastic for sensitive folks.

osea natural body loton Undaria body butter

I tried OSEA Undaria Body Lotion

I get why tons of people love OSEA’s body lotion, butters and oils. The consistency and texture is so LUSCIOUS, the scent is sweetly citrus, and their Undaria Algae is top notch. They soak hand-harvested Undaria Algae in barrels of oils for up to six months to create their Undaria Algae Body Oil. Love that it’s full of antioxidant rich plant ingredients like acai pulp oil, babassu seed oil, and linseed oil. I find their Undaria Body Lotion to be feel like a thin serum more than an actual lotion, so for more moisturizing benefits I would go for their Undaria Body Butter.

non toxic body lotion natural primally pure

I tried Primally Pure Body Butter

This is a super rich butter made from organic tallow from grass-fed cows along with shea butter, coconut oil, mango butter and extra virgin olive oil. I tried both the Almond Honey scent and Eucalyptus Lavender and they both smell amazing. It’s definitely a buttery butter but isn’t overly greasy either. This would be amazing for very dry skin, especially paired with a non toxic body serum.

I tried Beekman 1802 Whipped Body Cream

For the whipped texture fans I recommend Beekman 1802 Whipped Body Cream! It feels incredibly light, airy and fluffy. On the downside, whipped products last far less longer than regular lotions. It’s got Beekman’s famous goat milk along with botanicals, butters and oils. I find that it sinks right in without leaving a greasy feeling. The coconut cream scent I find to be very strong and fragrant, leaning cloyingly sweet.
