I am so wildly inconsistent with these, but it’s time for another OBL Current Favorites! Current Favorites is an irregular, casual installment of what I’m currently enjoying for the month and want to chat about on the blog. I’ve got an interesting mix of products that have made my month a little brighter, so let’s get right into it!
Monks Copal Green Deodorant Spray
Okay, the scent of this is just next level for a deodorant. You may know I am a big fan of Routine’s cream deodorants for their incredible olfactive scents, so it’s no surprise that when a scent knocks me off my feet, I’m likely to fall in love with it. Copal Green is fresh and green and smells like wet ferns.. slightly musky..slightly woodsy.. a tiny bit smoky. I don’t think this spray is heavy duty enough for very stinky people, but it’s a great everyday deodorant if you’re into sprays. The recent upgrade to their coloured aluminium bottles give it a unique look.
AAPTI Golf Sunscreen Patch for Outdoor UV Protection
The sunscreen craze has been dying down a bit, but now I’m seeing a bunch of sunscreen patch brands pop up! There are some cute undereye patch brands, but I was more interested in these all over face patches, because I might as well go for the whole shebang. These are actually…not as weird as the UV shield visors I’ve used. This is great for outdoor activities like golfing, skiing, hiking, dog walking, tennis, biking etc. I’m too embarrassed to wear these in group settings, but if it’s just my SO and I, I love being able to wear these on heavily sun-filled days where I’m outside for long periods.
I FINALLY got my hands on some Allies of Skin products and I adore the Retinal and Peptides Repair Night Cream. Very creamy, non-irritating and has plenty of other skin-beneficial ingredients.
African Botanics Nutritive Molecule Serum is a highly advanced and elegant product. It has 3 types of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid, Acetyl Hexapeptide 3, Oxidoreductas, Niacinamide, Resveratrol and Yeast Beta Glucan and the types of Vitamin C include Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Ascorbyl Palmitate. I was able to try this thanks to Boxwalla’s latest discovery box. This product is the perfect example of green science in its highest form.
Overall, I was never really taken with the Beekman 1802 line. But, their new Potato Peel Rapid Resurfacing Milk Facial is interesting, innovative and effective. I’m impressed by it. It’s a very strong resurfacing peel and more effective than some more expensive, luxury peels I’ve tried. Potato Peel has 15% glycolic acid, 10% lactobionic + lactic acid and, of course potato pulp along with their signature hero ingredient, goat milk. It has a pleasant gel texture, and there’s no added scent, so it smells a bit funky like a potato, but wow it works. Since it’s super strong, I don’t know if sensitive skin types should use this.
ZIIP Halo
Here’s the latest ZIIP Beauty device, the ZIIP Halo! I was stunned at how light and flimsy the new ZIIP device felt – it almost feels like a plastic toy (?!). But it still has the same nano current + microcurrent and Dual Waveform Technology along with a couple new upgrades like a built-in The Lift treatment for freeform usage and stronger vibrations to guide you through treatments. I’m also using a hair regrowth device launched by CurrentBody. It’s that crazy looking helmet contraption in the main photo. If you’ve heard of the iRestore Laser Hair Growth System, this is very similar. CurrentBody’s LED Hair Regrowth Device has 120 red LED powered with 18 J/cm² that target whole head with 640nm wavelength. It targets hair loss concerns like receding hairlines, thinning crown, bald spots, thinning temples and widening parts. I’ve been using it for 10 minutes a day to help with overall slowing down hair loss and my receding hairline.
Blueland Eco-Friendly Cleaning
I’m really trying hard to romanticize cleaning, and thanks to innovative (and aesthetic) brands like B-Corp Certified Blueland, it’s getting a little easier. Instead of buying bottles over and over again, you simply purchase the plastic-free refill pods and activate them with water while you use the same bottles on repeat. It’s a concept I’m already familiar with as I’m currently using a number of brands with the same philosophy, but what I like about Blueland’s bottles is they’re HUGE yet still lightweight. So you’re not constantly having to refill them with new pods. Blueland gets the job done cleaning-wise and offer a wide range of cleaning products from toilet bowl cleaners to glass cleaners and hand soap to dishwasher tablets.
Matcha and Electrolytes
I always love having organic matcha on the reg and I’ve been enjoying my electrolytes throughout this brutally hot summer. Cymbiotika’s organic matcha is vibrant and rich in flavour, plus I love that it comes packaged in a minimalist pouch that I can take anywhere with me. Cure’s Lemonade electrolytes are my favorite flavour, so refreshing and tasty on a hot day! And the more luxurious Pique’s B T Fountain beauty electrolytes come with hyaluronic acid and ceramides and, of course, Pique’s Full-Spectrum Isolate Synthesis technology. Arctic Wicks Candles
It’s August and currently 66 degrees outside and raining. Despite it being one of the hottest summers I’ve ever experienced, there’s been some cooler days when I’ve been able to light a candle or two. Lately, I’m enjoying Arctic Wicks, which is the first USDA 100% certified biobased candles to exist on the market. They use coconut and beeswax with no chemical additives and their candles offer very strong scent throw. (These do smell synthetic as they use fragrance oils with essential oils, so if that’s something you can’t tolerate these candles aren’t for you.) This brand is only for those who want a 100% natural wax candle that is very strongly fragranced.
