They are sooo much better for the environment, period.

Instead of throwing out a pad after each use, reusable ones can be washed and used over and over again for a lifetime.

In my experience, washing them in the mesh bag they usually come with isn’t enough. There’s still makeup stained on them out of the wash, so I always have to wash them by hand individually.

The main con I’ve found with these facial pads is washing them does require a bit of effort. I know it’s so convenient just being able to toss out cotton balls and use a fresh one every time, but I promise washing these only takes a little getting used to.

I love them because they’re soooo versatile too. They can be used to remove makeup, cleanse skin, apply toner and even removing nail polish. Some brands say theirs can be washed hundreds of times and others say a thousand times.

What to look for in a Makeup Remover Pad

After trying out tons of reusable makeup remover pads, this is what I recommend looking for when searching for the best. Check for the quality of materials used, softness, durability and ease of use.

• Materials used: look for natural or organic materials like GOTS certified organic cotton and Lyocell from organic bamboo
• Softness: I’ve found that some cotton rounds are simply softer than others and feel gentler on the skin.
• Durability: This can only be verified through repeated usage or just reading other people’s reviews, but look for cotton rounds that actually last and don’t wear down easily.
• Ease of use: Some cotton rounds have a little strap, a pocket to put your fingers in or have nothing at all. This is purely based on preference, but I find the ones with pockets are the easiest to hold and use. Trust me, if it’s not easy to hold on to you’ll wanna chuck them out the window and never use them again.

And of course, choose products that are ethically produced using fair wages for their workers and ethical practices.

Jenny Patinkin Pure Luxury Organic Reusable Cotton Rounds

Jenny Patinkin’s organic cotton rounds ticks aaaalmost all the boxes for me. They’re some of the softest and largest rounds I’ve used. I can confirm the terry texture feels sooo soft and luxurious.

I just don’t find holding them to be as comfortable as the ones with pockets. They’re hard to keep a good grip on because it’s two layers of rounds sewn all around the edges together but not in the middle so it’s super loose and keeps moving as I try to move it across my face.

But the material is fantastic. It’s of the highest quality compared to other cotton rounds. Their Lyocell fabric is made from Global Organic Certified bamboo through a closed-loop manufacturing process.

The large size can be both a pro and con. For me personally, I like how the size allows me to get more of my face in one swipe and remove heavy makeup and sunscreen. But because it’s so large it can be awkward trying to keep a good grip on it.

These are also on the more expensive end so I’d only find them worth getting on sale.

Three Ships Beauty Get Clean Reusable Bamboo Cosmetic Rounds (My Fave!)

I find Three Ships Beauty’s cosmetic rounds to be the most comfortable and convenient out of all the ones I’ve tried. They’re very soft, large but not too large and have a pocket to stick my fingers in. I’m able to keep a good grip on them and move them around my face with ease. I find the thickness and size to be ideal too. I absolutely love the positive affirmations on each one to put a little bit of joy into my nightly cleansing routine.

Clean Circle Reusable Makeup Remover Pads

These can be used to remove makeup with just water which I find very cool. They feel different from a regular organic cotton round and feel more like a fleece blanket. I find the pocket makes it easy to handle but the pad itself is quite small. The triangle shape helps with precision, but I think I prefer the convenience of a larger size than being precise.

Cocokind Resuable Facial Rounds

Cocokind’s reusable rounds are very affordable, sturdy and have decent thickness, but that’s the only thing I liked about them. They’re too small for me personally and the little strip on the back is not enough to keep a good grip on them. I looove their skincare, and some people love their rounds too, but unfortunately it’s a miss for me.
