big ass candle sparkling Paloma natural

My honest Big Ass Candle Review (I tried 3 bestsellers!)

My obsession with candles knows no bounds and I finally tried Big Ass Candles! They make the largest candles in the US using coconut and soy wax, 100% organic cotton wicks and paraben-free fragrance oils. I got their Baby version which is still a massive 150 oz and the gargantuan 300 oz Big Ass Candle. Keep reading for my no-nonsense review of the biggest non toxic candles made in America.

They’ve got ten scents to choose from made with phthalate-free fragrance oils as well as an unscented option for a completely non-toxic candle. Sample sets of 3 oz candles are available to help you figure out which scent you like best.

Overall, I think these are such an economical way to enjoy candles. Normal-sized candles are only 8 oz and run out so quickly if I want to burn them freely. Otherwise I have to “ration” my candle usage to get it to last longer and due to shrinkflation a lot of candles are getting smaller while staying the same price. I did the calculations and a 300 oz Big Ass Candle is basically 37 candles, making each candle around $7. Not to mention, you save on shipping costs completely.

I tried Sparkling Paloma

First off, when I first opened my package I was blown away by the sheer size of the candle. Okay to give you an idea of how much wax you’re getting, the 300 oz Big Ass Candle is still a whopping six times bigger than say Diptyque’s extra large candle, which is 51 oz. They did a good job packaging and protecting the candles to make sure they didn’t break on the way. In fact, it came as a split package delivery of multiple boxes so there wasn’t any chance of one of them clunking against the other.

I was a little worried about tunneling because there’s only four wicks when Diptyque’s much smaller candle has five wicks. I made sure to burn the candle for at least 6 hours on the first burn so it would pool evenly. Thankfully, I haven’t had any tunneling issues so far. No one wants to put ugly aluminum foil around such a beautiful decor piece! I love the tall, elegant look of this candle so much and enjoy keeping it on the floor to create a super romantic vibe.

I find Sparkling Paloma to be a beautiful transition scent from winter to spring, especially with the weather starting to slightly warm up. It’s a delicious, effervescent citrus scent with notes of Citrus, Agave, Tangerine, Orange, Mandarin, Grapefruit. I find the scent throw to be a strong average. Since it’s made up of solely fruity notes I didn’t find it as strong as the other Big Ass Candles I tried.

I tried Dark & Handsome

The Baby Big Ass Candle is 150 oz and comes in a shorter pot that looks great on my coffee table or kitchen counter. Dark & Handsome may be my favorite out of all the scents I tried. It feels like fine fragrance and smells sophisticated and complex with notes of Bergamot, Leaves, Leather, Lavender, Pine, Oakmoss, Rose, Amber. This one is sure to impress any guest in my opinion! In my apartment, this scent really permeates throughout and fills up the whole space. I can’t speak for big houses with extremely large living rooms though.

I tried Amber Rouge

Amber Rouge is part of their Luxe Collection and has a slightly different look with a shiny gold metal label. It retails for $199 while the regular Baby Big Ass candle retails for $179. In my opinion, I don’t think the cost premium is worth it. The regular scents are just as good and fine fragrance-esque and I kinda prefer the look of the copper wax seal to gold. Amber Rouge is a sensual scent with notes of Crimson Saffron, Wild Jasmine, Amberwood, Soft Oakmoss, Ambergris, Fir Resin, Redwood. I love a beautiful woodsy jasmine scent and this was right up my alley.

Scent throw strength: 3/5
