Colorescience is a mineral, medical-grade sunscreen, skincare and makeup line founded in 2000. You often see them in dermatologist offices and facial spas as they’re more of a luxury and professional leaning brand. While Colorescience does not market themselves as a clean beauty brand, they do try to formulate to a cleaner standard than most, and many of the newer clean beauty brands formulate with a similar number of synthetics included. I really like that the Colorescience sunscreens are formulated with a high amount of both zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which I don’t see other brands doing. So if you’re curious about the Colorescience Sunforgettable sunscreen keep reading.

Colorescience Sunforgettable Brush On Shield SPF 50
A little about mineral sunscreen powders: If you haven’t tried mineral SPF powders, they are a fantastic and versatile sunscreen product category. While sunscreen lotions are notoriously difficult to re-apply because they can get greasy and ruin makeup, re-applying with a brush on powder is hassle-free and leaves makeup mostly intact.
There’s a couple of reasons why this particular sunscreen powder by Colorescience is noteworthy.
- Only mineral sunscreen powder recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation
- SPF 50 while most brush-on powders are SPF 30
- 22.5% zinc oxide + 22.5% titanium dioxide
I’ve never seen this much zinc oxide and titanium dioxide in any other mineral sunscreen before. Others may have this much zinc oxide, but if they also include titanium dioxide, it’s at a much smaller percentage.
Colorescience Sunforgettable is also:
- 100% mineral sunscreen actives
- Antioxidant-rich & vegan formula
- Comes in 4 shades
- Antimicrobial bristles help protect the brush and maintain freshness
- Broad Spectrum SPF 50/PA++++
- Water/sweat resistant (80 minutes)
- Hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic
I use the shade Fair which gives me the subtlest airbrushed tint.
What I Don’t Like About Colorescience
I wish the bristles weren’t practically the same shade as the product (Fair) because it’s hard to tell when the powder is coming through the brush.
I like that my affordable Mineral Fusion brush on sunscreen powder has a black bristled brush, because I know immediately if and how much product has come out between the bristles.
It doesn’t seem like the powder is coming through when I use the brush normally (and I also can’t visually see the powder), so in order to ensure the powder gets applied, I have to push down on the brush all the way to the base as I apply.
This ruins the bristles over time but I’d rather be properly using the product instead of brushing it on with nothing actually coming out.
