In today’s article I’m sharing my honest Necessaire review of their body lotions, body wash, shampoo and more. I tested seven Necessaire products, including their body lotion, serum, body wash, exfoliator shampoo, conditioner and scalp serum. Necessaire products are priced in the $20-$30 range, so they’re not too expensive.
Launched in 2018, Necessaire is a clean body care line that makes genderless products using ingredients good enough for your face. For Necessaire, if it’s good enough for your face it’s good enough for your body. Today, the brand offers body washes, serums, scrubs, oils, lotions and even shampoo and conditioner in unscented and scented versions (eucalyptus lovers rejoice!). Using actives at high concentrations and natural ingredients, their body washes and lotions allow you to prioritize body care as a form of self care instead of an afterthought. Climate Neutral certified and plastic neutral, Necessaire is strongly focused on being a planet positive brand. There is some serious hype around Necessaire, so I finally put them to the test.
I tried Necessaire Body Wash
I find it so odd reviewing body washes because they’re just so easy to formulate. Like how can you possibly make a bad body wash in this day and age. The Necessaire body wash is a thick gel that gently lathers and has a natural eucalyptus scent.
In terms of the level of clean-ness, this isn’t the cleanest body wash out there. For example, the Necessaire Body Wash does contain phenoxyethanol.
I do have to admit the eucalyptus scent is amazing. It helps turn my boring shower routine into a therapeutic spa experience.
I tried Necessaire Body Lotion
If you’re a fan of the Cerave body lotion, Necessaire makes a fantastic clean dupe. The Necessaire Body Lotion is made with multivitamins for the skin and contains conditioning peptides. The lotion feels hydrating and doesn’t feel like it just sits on top of my skin. It sinks in well and is super smooth and silky. The Necessaire Body Lotion has the idea consistency of neither too thick nor too thin. Overall a pleasant body lotion and the fragrance free version is fantastic if you prefer no scent.
At first I wasn’t used to using a fragrance free lotion, but now I understand its appeal. Sometimes you don’t want to overpower your senses with super fragrant body washes and lotions that all compete with each other, and you just want simple. Just moisture.
I tried Necessaire Body Scrub
While the Necessaire body scrub doesn’t look like much from the outside, it’s actually a treatment product loaded with skincare actives. It was honestly too gentle for me to feel like it was effective. I doubt I’d re-purchase the body scrub. For someone looking for a light exfoliation without dealing with oils and greasiness, this would be perfect though. Check out my top natural body scrubs guide.
The Body Exfoliator is meant to be used 1-2 times a week. It’s a weekly physical and chemical exfoliation treatment for the skin with 6.5% Physical Exfoliation (Volcanic Pumice | Charcoal Bamboo), 1.25% Chemical Exfoliation (AHA | BHA | PHA) and Niacinamide infused into a gentle plant surfactant base.
The Necessaire exfoliating treatment breaks down charcoal on contact for a skin detox, while Volcanic Pumice, Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) and Gluconolactone (PHA) help to resurface skin.
The Necessaire The Body Exfoliator is meant to be used diligently not every once in a blue moon if you want to see any improvement in the texture of your body skin. I appreciate the concept of this product but I simply don’t have the discipline to use it regularly enough to see results. As far as how it feels, the Necessaire Body Exfoliator feels hydrating because it’s a thick, clear gel and there’s light exfoliation from the particles in the gel. A plus is it doesn’t get my bathtub too dirty like other scrubs.
For days I don’t feel like applying lotion, I really liked the Necessary Body Serum. It has the consistency of a serum and sinks in immediately, eliminating any wait time for it to dry. I also like the concept of using body serums the same way we do for our face to add hydration. Check out my fave natural body serums guide!
I tried The Shampoo and Conditioner
I tested the Necessaire shampoo for an entire year on and off and can see myself repurchasing this. It’s a balancing shampoo that’s great for dry, sensitive scalp and has a very thick gel consistency that lathers well. Even though it’s not technically formulated for oily scalp, I feel like this would actually be good for those who have oily scalp because it does an extremely thorough job at cleansing. My scalp gets oily very quickly and this seems to reduce the number days in between washes. The formula contains 7 molecular weights of Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin B 3, Vitamin B 5 and ApiScalp.
I went through the Necessaire conditioner SO fast. It’s too thin for me to use on my dry and damaged hair, so I used this along with a hair mask for two conditioning sessions. If you have fine or normal hair, the Necessaire conditioner will probably work better for you.
