I’ve used Sky & Sol tallow sunscreen for a year now and am sharing my brutally honest thoughts on their bestsellers. This is a 100% natural tallow skincare line that’s non-toxic, seed oil-free, preservative-free, fragrance-free and 3rd party tested. My verdict: Overall, I think Sky & Sol is a great brand to try if you’re new to tallow skincare because they’re relatively affordable. A major pro compared to other tallow brands is they offer FREE global shipping (orders $47+) and have a very generous return policy. They’re not the highest quality tallow brand on the market, but they’re easy and enjoyable to use.

I tried Face & Body Sunscreen SPF 50

I was blown away by the absence of any white cast when I first tried Sky and Sol’s sunscreen. This is easily one of my top two go-to brands for tallow sunscreen (there other is Summer Solace Tallow for unrivaled quality). This has a very pleasant, light lotion consistency. It absorbs and spreads flawlessly, feels soo hydrating and doesn’t leave a white cast. It’s a bit of a conundrum to me because 25% zinc oxide should normally give a super heavy white cast and there’s no way to avoid it. So I do think that they’ve added some other UV filters in there. All the ingredients are 100% natural and include water, grass-fed & grass-finished tallow, jojoba oil, jojoba ester, lecithin, Kaith Bark and Babassu Starch. There’s absolutely no scent I can detect.

They source their tallow from regenerative pesticide-free farms in Australia, where the cows are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished.

I tried Day & Night Moisturizer

This has a lighter consistency to their sunscreen and feels like a gel-lotion than a true lotion. If you’re looking for a rich and thick moisturizer then I’d skip this. But for those looking for a gel moisturizer, this has simple and clean ingredients and is rich in Vitamins A, B12, D, E, and K. There’s no silicones, highly processed seed oils, parabens, phthalates, or PFAS. It sinks in very quickly and feels weightless, but doesn’t provide deep moisturization benefits in my opinion.

I Tried Ancestral Anti-Aging Tallow Serum

This is the first and only natural tallow serum for face I’ve ever tried! I was so excited when Sky & Sol launched a face serum with tallow just because it’s never been done before. This is a water-based serum made with Tallow, Marula Oil, Squalane (from Olives), Lecithin, and Sea Buckthorn Oil. It’s also got some fantastic skincare actives like Snow Mushroom Extract, Bakuchiol, and Astaxanthin. I find the consistency to be very light and watery. Since water is the base, I have to assume it makes up around 70-90% of the formula. My main complaint is, for a $90 product, I wish they would have used a more skin beneficial ingredient like aloe vera or hydrosol.

I tried Leave In Conditioner Hair Cream

Sky & Sol’s Hair Cream is the first hair product I’ve seen with tallow. This is pleasantly light and hydrating and not at all rich or heavy. The formula begins with a water base and has grass-fed tallow, argan and Marula oils, green tea extract and silk protein. It needs a good shake to mix up all the ingredients. It’s so light that I actually like to use it directly on my scalp when it’s feeling dry and starting to look flaky. I’ve been traveling a lot and the different types of water in various countries has done a number on my scalp and hair. I love this as a hydration boost but I don’t think it’s rich enough for thick or coarse hair.
