I committed to using the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet everyday for 10 minutes over a period of 12 weeks to see the results for myself. I’m going to deep dive into how red light therapy works, my results with CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet and whether I think it’s worth it.

Why I Started Using Red Light Therapy on my Scalp
While I make sure to take care of my hair health using hair serums and supplements, I’m also a major proponent of utilizing the power of technology. I can, quite literally, get to the root of hair to make the biggest impact possible. This, then, helps all my topical products work more efficiently – a beautiful symbiotic cycle! There’s a bunch of things that red light therapy does for my scalp that my other products simply cannot.
At the core of red light therapy’s effectiveness is its ability to stimulate cellular activity and promote circulation in the scalp. When specific wavelengths of red light are absorbed by the cells of the hair follicles, there’s increased production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy currency of cells, and the release of nitric oxide, a molecule that helps dilate blood vessels and improve blood flow. This helps to nourish the hair follicles, reactivate dormant follicles, and strengthen existing strands.
Inflammation, inflammation, inflammation aka the root of all evil. Red light therapy has been shown to reduce inflammation, a key factor in hair loss. It targets inflammatory pathways and can reduce the damaging effects of chronic inflammation on hair follicles. This is achieved through using specific wavelengths that can effectively penetrate the scalp, reaching deep within the dermis and even into the underlying tissues. They’re able to stimulate the hair follicles and promote an increase in the production of keratin, a protein essential for hair health.
Red light therapy also helps accelerate the hair growth cycle. A little info on the hair growth cycle – it’s divided into three phases: anagen (growth), catagen (transition), and telogen (resting). Red light therapy helps prolong the anagen phase, which means that more hairs are actively growing at any given time. This can lead to faster and more abundant hair growth, filling in areas of thinning or promoting the regrowth of dormant hair follicles.

How the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet Works
CurrentBody’s LED Hair Growth Helmet uses 120 red LED lights at 630 to 660 nanometers that deliver low-level light therapy across the entire scalp. Wavelength is what makes red light therapy actually effective, and the most important aspect to look for in an effective product.
Here’s a brief snapshot on its stats:
- Clinically proven results in just 12 weeks:
- 72% less hair loss, 123% faster growth rate, 26% more hair volume, 22% stronger hair
- Hands-free, 10-minute daily use
- FDA-cleared, non-invasive, pain-free, and backed by a 60-day money-back guarantee.
Be sure to use it on a clean, dry and product-free scalp and commit to 10 minutes each day for at least 16 weeks. It’s also important that you choose the right size (they offer a medium and large size) so the helmet is sitting as close to the scalp as possible. Here’s how to know which is right for you. Measure across your forehead and if:
- 54cm – 58.9cm: Medium
- 59cm – 63.5cm: Large

My Experience
I was going through something traumatic earlier this year and experiencing shocking amounts of hair fallout from the stress. Tragically, this was also the best possible time I could be testing this hair helmet out. This was no easy feat and there were definitely a few gaps in between, but for the most part, I was super diligent.
I found it super convenient to use, because I’m free to drink, eat, move and work throughout the treatment and there are no cords to deal with. At the press of a button, it turns on and an automatic timer on the side appears. After 10 minutes is done, the device automatically shuts off. The downside is it’s not travel friendly, so whenever I went on a trip I could not bring my device. I also have to make sure my long hair is neatly tied, otherwise it gets caught in the ear pieces.
I gradually experienced less hair fallout, and my hair felt stronger and healthier towards the end of my testing period. Most noticeably, I saw more regrowth in the sparse areas around my temples (see image above). Yes, it’s not an easy feat to commit to using this so I’d only recommend to those who are extremely serious about their hair health. It’s also not cheap. I think if you’re noticing your hair is start to thin or it’s falling out in bigger clumps than usual, CurrentBody’s LED Hair Growth Device is the best tech available on the market currently. It is an investment for sure and totally worth trying to see what results you might have.
