I normally don’t care for celeb beauty brand launches, but I was actually excited for Bella Hadid’s Orebella perfumes. Why (asked no one)? Because they’re faaar from your typical department store perfume, in a really really good way. Read on for my honest Orebella review.
Much to my surprise, Orebella actually falls under the clean, non-toxic perfume category aka the world I live in. Bella Hadid isn’t the first celeb to create a clean perfume brand (Henry Rose was started by Michelle Pfeiffer), but Orebella is a step above a brand like Henry Rose.
These are alcohol free, essential oil perfumes with a very unique, atypical look to most luxury perfumes. They’re like giant otherworldly eye-candy that catches your attention at every angle and in every lighting thanks to its prismatic bottle. I feel like they’re a precious key to some magical portal in a video game or alien world. I admire the bold packaging choice and adore how it stands out on my vanity.
As if Orebella wasn’t unique enough already, these contain bi-phase formulas that need to be shaken to be activated. When they’re still, the liquid is translucent but shaken it turns into a milky, creamy shade. There’s also some gold shimmer to it that’s not that visible in my photos, but clear IRL.The reason they need to be shaken is because the formula is essentially a mix of water and oils without any alcohol. Each perfume features the “Orelixir Base” which is a blend of nourishing plant oils like olive fruit oil, shea oil, jojoba seed oil and tsubaki seed oil.
Here’s the technical details of Orebella. They come in three sizes (10mL for $35, 50mL for $72, and 100mL for $100) and oval, crystalline containers with shiny gold oblong caps. There are currently four scents – NIGHTCAP, BLOOMING, WINDOW2SOUL and SALTED. The entire range is:
- Dermatologist Tested and Suitable for Sensitive Skin
- Bi-phase Formula: Nourishing Orelixir Base + Aura-Elevating Scents
- Must be shaken to be activated
- 1% of Net Sales Donated to Charity
I actually love that these are very much “woo woo wellness” perfumes that are all about the aura and not the typical luxury branding most perfumes go for. But they still do have a luxe factor to them.
My Thoughts on Orebella NIGHTCAP
NIGHTCAP is a sultry, warm, creamy and slightly spicy vanilla scent that has essential oils of ginger, sandalwood, patchouli, cardamom, cistus, guaiacwood and copaiba. The scent itself I find beautiful, resinous and impactful without being overpowering. I’m obsessed with anything that has cistus because it’s so rarely in anything! So I was definitely impressed when I saw it as one of the ingredients. The fragrance dries down to a skin scent and is lovely in its subtlety. I love NIGHTCAP as a bedtime perfume and during the day as the weather turns colder.
Scent Throw
Because it’s natural, it’s not anywhere near as strong as conventional perfumes like Chanel, Dior etc. The scent throw is light and lays close to the skin. It’s probably just a little stronger than Phlur’s body mists if not the same strength.
Longevity
I find the longevity to be much less than the 8 hours it claims to have. I would say Orebella lasts around MAX three hours (fades with each passing hour) and that’s typical for a natural perfume without a bunch of harsh synthetics.
What I didn’t like
The bottle feels GIGANTIC so if you have small hands you might find it clunky and awkward to hold, shake and spray. The other downside is it doesn’t stand upright on its own, so if you’d like it to sit pretty on your vanity you need to get their perfume stand which costs $35 extra (it fits only the 50 ml sized bottle). It does look cool sitting on it like it’s got its own throne.
My Final Thoughts
Overall, I think it’s amazing that Bella Hadid is bringing natural perfumes and her love for aromatherapy to the masses in a way that many other brands without her star power can’t. Orebella launched at ULTA from the start, which is a feat that many emerging brands struggle to accomplish. I really hope the line expands into more natural body care like lotions and body washes with the same uniqueness and boldness that the line seems to have.
