In today’s article, I’m sharing my honest Three Ships Beauty review after testing out the entire line of Three Ships skincare. I think this Canadian brand is making some fantastic 100% natural skincare products at accessible price points.
Three Ships Beauty makes award-winning clean skincare made with 100% natural ingredients. Three Ships Beauty products are EWG verified, certified cruelty-free and vegan, and formulated by world-class chemists. Tired of what they saw in the clean beauty industry, Three Ships founders set sail to be the most transparent clean skincare brand out there. While Three Ships isn’t luxury, they also don’t feel budget or too “granola”. Read on for Three Ships Beauty hits and misses, and use discount code OBL to save 20% at Three Ships.
For a budget friendly face moisturiser, the Three Ships Radiance Day Cream feels like a luxury cream. It isn’t easy to find a quality moisturizer at this price that’s truly all natural and packaged well! The Three Ships Day Cream is a silky lotion that feels moisturizing thanks to its Squalane oil content.
I love the pump jar packaging Radiance Grape Stem Cell + Squalane Day Cream comes in for the most sanitary usage possible. Your fingers don’t contaminate the product and it’s never exposed to air. The scent is very subtle and smells faintly of grape.
Each Three Ships Beauty product shares the breakdown of its key actives. The Three Ships Radiance Day Cream contains:
- Grape Stem Cell Extract (0.4%)
- Squalane (2.5%)
- Bark Extract Blend (0.25%)
It also contains a handful of nourishing botanical oils and butters, making the Radiance Grape Stem Cell + Squalane Day Cream good enough for nighttime use for me.
I love how lightweight and hydrating the Three Ships cleanser feels, but don’t expect it to take off a full face of makeup. The Three Ships Purify Aloe Amino Acid Gel Cleanser is a gentle liquid-like gel cleanser. It feels very hydrating and has a super thin consistency. If you don’t like thick gel cleansers, the Three Ships cleanser is a good alternative to try. If you prefer thick, viscous gel cleansers, you probably won’t enjoy Three Ships.
Three Ships Purify Aloe Amino Acid Gel Cleanser contains:
- Amino Acids (1%)
- Aloe Vera (26%)
- Yeast Extract (2%)
Three Ships’ Aloe Vera is sourced from 40 independent, locally operated farms in El Progreso Guatemala. All suppliers participate in a fair-financing lending hub to ensure economic security and follow sustainable harvesting practices to preserve biodiversity.
Refresh Papaya + Salicylic Acid Cleanser
For oily and acneic skin, Three Ships Beauty has their Refresh Papaya + Salicylic Acid Cleanser. I also tested this cleanser and was surprised to find the product comes out as PURE FOAM. This may or not be something you’ll enjoy. The Refresh Papaya Salicylic Acid Cleanser is a very thin watery foam that feels very gentle. I would not use this to take off makeup, but to really deep cleanse pores after skin has already been thoroughly cleansed.
I love how goopy and thick the Three Ships Dew Drops serum is. It’s perfect for dry skin but I did not notice much brightening. The SELF magazine award-winning Three Ships Dew Drops serum is a hydrating and brightening serum. And Drew Barrymore uses this product. Hydration comes from natural Hyaluronic acid and brightening from natural Vitamin C. The Three Ships Dew Drops serum is a thick goopy serum that feels hydrating. I haven’t experienced any pilling issues either.
But the Three Ships serum isn’t a heavy duty product as both the hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C come from natural sources. So it’s not as strong as their synthetic counterparts, but if you’re not in need of any major corrections, the Three Ships Dew Drops Mushroom Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin C Serum is an affordable gentle option. If you’re over 30 or need correctional skincare, I would not recommend this Three Ships serum.
The scent is very subtle and comes from the Kakadu Plum.
The key actives in Three Ships Dew Drops Mushroom Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin C Serum are:
Three Ships Superfruit Exfoliating Mask
I’m so impressed by the Three Ships exfoliating mask, especially for how affordable it is. This is just as good as the $40-something masks made by bigger clean beauty brands. The Superfruit Lactic + Multifruit 8% AHA has an impressive ingredients list and has a potent formula that I can feel working immediately. Of course, sensitive skin types should proceed with caution. The Three Ships Exfoliating Mask is absolutely packed with actives, including 1.76% lactic acid and 2% rice powder along with soothing barley seed extract and aloe vera leaf. The consistency is lotion gel-like so a great option for dry skin.
Ingredients: aqua/water/eau, cetearyl alcohol, glycerin, squalane, limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, glyceryl stearate, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, oryza sativa (rice) powder, vaccinium myrtillus (bilberry) fruit extract, lactic acid, sodium stearoyl glutamate, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, salix nigra (willow) bark extract, decyl glucoside, saccharum officinarum (sugar cane) extract, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) fruit extract, citrus limon (lemon) fruit extract, acer saccharum (sugar maple) extract, hordeum vulgare (barley) seed extract, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, caprylhydroxamic acid, glyceryl caprylate, xanthan gum, tocopherol, citric acid, sodium phytate, citrus junos (yuzu) peel oil, citrus limon (lemon) peel oil, mentha spicata(spearmint), herb oil lactic acid (1.76%), fruit aha blend (7%), rice powder (2%)
Three Ships Skin Hero Bio Retinol Serum
I found the Three Ships Bio Retinol Serum to be a creamy serum that’s pleasant to use. It has Bakuchiol to help reduce the look of fine lines and blemishes, and fade post-breakout marks. The Three Ships retinol serum has a generous 3% Calendula to help soothe skin. I think this would be a great natural alternative retinol serum for sensitive skin since it’s so gentle.
Three Ships Replenish Ceramides Blueberry Barrier Repair Serum
I used the Three Ships Ceramides Barrier Repair Serum after I had a chemical peel done, since I needed something super reparative and healing. This is a very creamy and goopy serum that comes in a dropper bottle. It’s EWG verified and filled with ceramides to strengthen the skin barrier and upcycled Blueberry Extract to deliver barrier-boosting lipids. I found the Three Ships Replenish Serum to be wonderfully hydrating, fast absorbing and exactly what my skin barrier compromised skin needed.
Three Ships Dream Bio Retinol + Shorea Butter Night Cream
The Three Ships Bio Retinol Butter Night Cream truly is very buttery and rich enough for extremely dry skin. It has a plant alternative ingredient for retinol called Picão Preto, an herb native to Brazil, along with vegan squalane and Shorea and Murumuru butters. This cream is so moisturizing and has interesting ingredients that I don’t see often. There is no scent.
Three Ships Glow 49% Jojoba Oil Serum
The Three Ships Glow Jojoba Oil Serum was one product I didn’t like sadly. This was my least favorite product because it was just too simple in formulation for $35 US dollars. It has organic Jojoba Oil, Camellia Oil and Vitamin E and a very lightweight consistency. I wish the Jojoba Oil Serum had more actives included, because it feels overpriced for a couple of oils that could easily be purchased off Amazon for much less.
