I Tested 7 Best Clean Body Mist (Here’s What I Liked Most!)

Say goodbye to those toxic Victoria Secret body mists, and say hello to low-tox healthier body mists! They’re having a major moment, so I tested seven of the best clean body mist sprays to see if they’re worth the hype AND find the winners. I comparing each mist so you can find the right one that fits your budget and needs. Plus, I’m sharing my hack for how to make your own natural body mist right at home!

A Note about Clean Body Mist Sprays

I’ve found that most body sprays are made by clean perfume brands that use synthetic fragrance and only a small number of them are 100% natural. (I have a whole guide to clean perfumes explaining the difference between a “clean perfume” and “natural perfume.”)

I Tried Phlur Vanilla Skin Body Mist (Best Value!)

I cannot stop seeing this all over social media so I had to try Phlur’s Vanilla Skin to see if it’s worth the hype. I find it to be very soft and subtle, with a creamy factor and the slightest hint of floral and woods. The notes include Pink Pepper, Sugar Crystals, Lily, Jasmine Petals, Cashmere Wood, Benzoin, Vanilla, Sandalwood and Agarwood. Despite it having so many notes, they’re all balanced super well. There’s no note that dominates over the other, except for vanilla of course, and I just get a very yummy feminine vanilla.

Since it’s a body mist, it almost immediately becomes a skin scent, like within the hour. I found during my testing that it lasts around two hours, maybe a little longer, with five spritzes. It can last longer when I spray it onto my clothes. I actually find their eau de parfum perfumes to smell a little too synthetic, so this is a welcome alternative.

Unlike their perfumes, Phlur’s body mists are packaged in plastic. What I do love is how generously sized the bottles are. Compared to other clean body mists, Phlur’s definitely offers the most value for money with more than double the amount of product than some other similarly priced brands.

Price: $38 for 8 oz / $24 for 3 oz
Ingredients: Clean perfume and water
Scents available (8): Heavy Cream, Vanilla Skin, Caramel Skin, Coconut Skin, Moonstone, Dragon Fruit, Amber Haze, Mango Mood
How long it lasts: 2 hours
✔ Vegan ✔ Cruelty-free

I Tried Salt & Stone Body Mist

clean body mist salt and stone

I find Salt & Stone scents to be sooo gorgeous, but wow this one is the priciest compared to other body mists! Yes it’s packaged in glass and looks high-end minimalistic, but still. If this offered as much product as Phlur’s body mist, it would cost $100. I also found it to fade a little more quickly than other brands.

I love their deodorant scents, so I pretty much knew what I was getting with their body mists. Salt & Stone’s body mists are made with their fragrance mixed with water, plus they included a couple skincare actives like red algae and glycerin to boost moisture.

Santal & Vetiver is such a gorgeous scent and can be enjoyed by both men and women alike. It’s warm, resinous, grounding and just sliiiightly sweet. The notes include Australian Sandalwood, Amber, Orris, Ambrox, Cedar, Violet Leaves, Vetiver and Crystal. Like most other body mists I tried, Salt & Stone’s isn’t all that long lasting and lingers for about two hours.

Price: $45 for 3.4 oz
Ingredients: Clean perfume, red algae, glycerin and water
Scents available (3): Bergamot & Hinoki, Black Rose & Oud, Santal & Vetiver
How long it lasts: up to 2 hours but a bit less

I Tried Pacifica Perfumed Hair & Body Mist (longest lasting!)

pacifica body mist

I found Pacifica’s body mists to be the most affordable AND long-lasting out of all the ones I tested. Some scents have had a packaging upgrade to aluminium so they look even chicer now (and sustainable yay!). The scent throw is a couple levels stronger than similar body mists and lasts an hour or two longer. Pacifica also offers the most scent variety with eleven different body mists to choose from.

Indian Coconut Nectar has notes of creamy coconut, vanilla, sugar crystals and amber, which is a lot simpler than other fine fragrance body mists. But honestly I found that it smells JUST AS GOOD as the more luxe sprays.

Price: $13 for 5 oz
Ingredients: Phthalate-free fragrance oils, essential oils and water
Scents available (11): Indian Nectar, Silver Moon, Dream Moon, Island Vanilla, Beach Day, Montana Sky, Sunrise Moon, Neon Moon, Blue Moon, Flower Moon
How long it lasts: Up to 4 hours
✔ Vegan ✔ Cruelty-free ✔ Includes essential oils

I Tried Skylar Hair & Body Mist

skylar body mist vanilla sky

Sadly, I found Skylar Vanilla Sky Body Mist to be underwhelming. The bottle looks and feels super cheap, despite it having a higher price tag than other luxury body mists. I don’t think people realize how LITTLE product they’re getting (it only has one third of the amount in Phlur’s body mist).

Aaand, I’m not a huge fan of the scent. While their version of a gourmand vanilla is not my favorite compared to Phlur’s Vanilla Skin, I can see why young people might love it. It’s more of a juvenile vanilla that’s still warm and cozy, but just a bit too sweet and candy-like for me. I think it’s because of the cappuccino note, which you’ll either love or hate.

I Tried Homecourt Cocomoi Body Mist

homecourt body mist cocomoi

I’ve always been impressed by Homecourt’s scents, so when I saw they launched Cocomoi, which is an entirely new scent I was intrigued. It’s actually inspired by my favorite Homecourt scent Cece but modified with other notes. It’s got coconut water, cedarwood, creamy fig, cardamom, vetiver and black pepper, so there’s some woodsiness but definitely a sharp sweetness to it. I find this to be a really interesting coconut scent thanks to the earthiness of cedarwood and vetiver as well as the creaminess of fig. It’s not a typical summery coconut scent, but one that would still work well through fall and winter.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that it lasts longer than Phlur and Salt & Stone. But unpleasantly surprised to find that they didn’t package it in glass, but plastic instead. I think glass would’ve looked and felt much nicer (like Salt & Stone’s). The other downside is there’s only one scent available currently.

Price: $38 for 3.4 oz
Ingredients: Clean perfume, essential oils and water
Scents available: Cocomoi
How long it lasts: 3 hours
✔ Vegan ✔ Cruelty-free ✔ Includes sustainably-sourced essential oils

I Tried Ellis Brooklyn Body Mist

ellis brooklyn body mist natural clean

Ellis Brooklyn’s body mist is on the more expensive side, but they do have better packaging and ingredients. They’re also transparent about exactly how much of their formula is naturally derived (and renewable).

Ellis Brooklyn SALT is one of my all-time favorite summer clean perfumes, so I had to try their SEA body mist. Yes, they do have a VANILLA SIN body mist for vanilla lovers. It actually looks interesting with notes of black cherry, almond cream, bourbon vanilla and hazelnut, so I want to try that next. But SEA is, as you can guess, an aquatic beach scent with hints of citrus. It’s got notes of lemon sfuma, Italian mandarin, pineapple leaves, cassis, ginger, Tonka Bean, cedwarwood and sandalwood. It’s very different from SALT.

When I first sprayed it, I found it to be quite subtle so I gave myself a good several spritzes to really get a feel for the fragrance. I actually love it. It’s soo fresh, light and citrusy with a woodsy undercurrent. The scent throw is on the subtle side and isn’t particularly long lasting.

Price: $48 for 3.38 oz / $35 for 1.7 oz
Ingredients: Clean perfume, essential oils and water
Scents available (5): Vanilla Skin, Peaches, Sun, Sand, Sea
How long it lasts: 2 hours

I Tried Zum Mist Aromatherapy Body Mist (100% natural)

zum body mist spray

I tried ZUM’s room and body mist, which is basically a blend of essential oils, glycerin and water. I think this is a great, affordable natural brand that deserves more recognition! They don’t have the luxurious look that other brands have, but they’re sooo budget friendly and truly clean! Their ZUM Mists come in tons of different scent varieties. I found that it lasts around an hour, maybe a little longer. Sea Salt smells sooo fresh and clean and has hints of floral and citrus notes along with smoky patchouli.

Price: $12.75 for 4 oz
Ingredients: Essential oils and water
Scents available: Salt, Patchouli, Frankincense & Myrrh, Lemongrass, Eucalyptus
How long it lasts: 1 hour
✔ Vegan ✔ Cruelty-free ✔ 100% essential oil scented

My Final Verdict

Overall, my favorite is Pacifica because of how affordable and long lasting it is. But if luxury is more your vibe, Phlur is my top pick. You get the most bang for your buck with both of these brands.

How I Make My Own Natural Body Mist at Home

I’ve discovered two different ways to make my own clean body mist! It saves so much money, and I can wear my personal favorite scents rather than rely on what brands create.

The first method is to use a clean perfume you already own and love. The second is to use essential oils. I created a little easy-to-follow guide below.
