I kept seeing ads for Homeaglow and I got the chance to try them out. If you’re wondering what Homeaglow is, how it works and what’s the catch, I got you! I’m sharing my experience with you and my honest thoughts.

My home was in dire need of a deep cleaning, especially with a large indoor dog and I didn’t want to have to ask around for a good cleaner and deal with the back and forth communication. Enter Homeaglow.

What is Homeaglow?

Simply put, Homeaglow is an on-demand house cleaning platform, like Uber for home cleaning. It’s not actually a traditional cleaning company and more a marketplace that connects you with independent, background-checked cleaners in your area. It operates in around 50 U.S. cities with over 650,000 people’s homes cleaned.

How Homeaglow Works

Everything is done online. The booking works simply: you put in your zip code, pick a time block (anywhere from 2 to 6 hours), and a cleaner shows up to handle the work.

First-time bookings come with a steep introductory offer —currently a free 3-hour cleaning when you sign up for  their ForeverClean membership. Membership costs only $19 for that first month, the membership renews at $59/month and knocks future bookings down to roughly 60% off.

When you sign up for the introductory offer, you are signing up for their subscription model. And you need to keep the membership for 6-months, otherwise the first cleaning is charged at full-price.

Read Before Booking

The one thing you need to understand before booking: pricing is structured as introductory vouchers, not standard hourly rates. Mine looked something like this:

• Your first month of ForeverClean membership is $19 (normally $59/month)
• That first month includes a free 3-hour cleaning
• After the first month, the membership auto-renews at $59/month
• As a member, additional cleanings start at about $18/hr — up to 60% off the standard non-member rate of $35/hr
• There’s a 6-month membership commitment attached to the free first clean. If you cancel before the 6 months are up, that first cleaning gets charged at the standard non-member rate of $35/hr instead

You can still book at one-time, non-member prices ($35/hr and up), but if you opt in for the discounted first clean, you’re opting into the monthly membership — so know that going in.

Homeaglow vs. a Traditional Cleaning Service

A few things set this apart from calling a local cleaning company directly:

• No phone tag or waiting on a quote — everything is booked online
• You can see cleaner ratings and see what other people had to say about their work
• You can choose who comes back
• Direct messaging with your cleaner to reschedule or flag something specific
• Pricing is transparent upfront, before you commit to anything
• You have access to hundreds of cleaners and can save your preferred cleaners or switch up whenever you want.

What’s Actually Included

Homeaglow cleanings follow a pretty standard scope, and the cleaner brings their own supplies, so there’s nothing to do on your end except book and make sure they can get in the door.

• Every room: dusting, vacuuming, general tidying
• Kitchen: dishes, wiping down appliance exteriors and counters
• Bathroom: toilet, sink, shower/tub, mirrors
• Bedroom: making beds, light laundry folding

Certain services are separate add-ons that will add extra time (and cost) to your total bill.

• Add-ons available: laundry, baseboards, inside the fridge or oven, windows, deep cabinet cleaning

My Booking Experience

The website is really easy and simple to use. Maybe a little too simple looking, but everything works fine. I select a cleaning window, total hours of cleaning I want done and any extra add-on services like laundry, inside of the fridge or inside of the oven and the platform sends out a request. I could also add notes the cleaner would see when accepting and I mentioned I had a dog and was specifically looking for a deep cleaning.

Within an hour I already had someone accept my cleaning request and messages came directly to my phone. I did change my cleaner several times before I found the right fit.

If I wanted to change cleaners, it was super easy to decline the match and the request would be live again. Homeaglow gives every top-rated cleaner an equal shot at jobs rather than filtering by things like gender, so I passed on a few matches until I found someone I felt genuinely comfortable with. I also had to decline a few husband-wife duo teams because I preferred a single cleaner. Even though they could get the job in half the time and maybe even do a better job, it would have been too hectic with multiple people at home plus a dog. 

The Cleaning: What Actually Happened

My cleaner was super responsive by text and informed me when she was about to arrive on the day of. She had all her own supplies and after a quick walk through and explanation of what I wanted, she got to work straightaway.

I had her really focus on the wet rooms like the kitchen and bathroom. She was discreet, quiet and friendly with my dog. I also appreciated she brought her more eco-friendly cleaning products that are safe for pets.

Safety was just as important to me and I felt totally comfortable having her in the home. It was interesting to hear her set timers on her iPhone for how much she wanted to focus on a specific task. Something I need to learn to do myself!

The Result

Overall, I feel like she did a great job considering it had been years since the place had been properly deep cleaned. 

Cleaning Duration

My cleaner ended up going a little over time and she did claim more than 4 hours. So you should be aware that the amount of time they actually stay is what they will claim and subsequently what you will be charged for. Obviously, putting 2 hours for a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home is not going to be realistic and the cleaner will either inform you of what can be realistically completed in that amount of time or stay for 4+ hours.

Is the Price Actually Worth It?

The introductory price is really just a discounted first month of membership — $19 instead of the usual $59, and it comes with a free 3-hour cleaning.The business model is designed to offer a membership which drops the starting hourly rate to about $18/hour — compared to $35/hr non-member rates on the platform and $45–55+/hour for a lot of traditional cleaning services.

Simply put, you’re paying a monthly fee to get cleaning at up to 60% of the usual price. If you’re booking one cleaning a month, you’re paying less of what a normal cleaning would cost without the platform, and if you’re booking biweekly or weekly cleanings, that’s when the major savings starts.

My Final Thoughts

Do I think Homeaglow is worth it? For those of us who want streamlined, convenient, automated regular cleaning, I think they’re a solid platform to go with. All cleaners are background-checked, and the ratings and reviews make it easy to find the right fit — so take a minute to read profiles before you book and land the best cleaner for your needs.

On the flip side, I don’t think it’s worth it for people who need a professional cleaner once in a blue moon, though the platform is still pretty darn convenient for that too. While previous iterations of their booking flow did call out their membership, it was possible for folks to overlook reading the terms properly. Their new model, “First cleaning free with membership”, addresses that head-on, leading with the membership front and center.
