How to Choose the Best Weighted Blanket
I’ve bought and used various nontoxic weighted blankets over the last three years, and I’m finally sharing the best ones. The best weighted blanket is made with healthy natural fibers like organic cotton or linen and without any lead, plastic or harmful materials.

Why Use a Weighted Blanket?
- They provide comforting pressure against the body like a hug aka deep pressure stimulation.
- Can help you feel less stressed and calmer
- Helps with more restful sleep
- If you’d like the sensation of an enveloping hug as you lounge or sleep
- They now come in comforter form so there’s no need to have two separate products.
- Organic weighted blankets in particular are made with non-toxic materials that aren’t processed with chemical finishes, toxic dyes or chlorine bleach.

I tried YNM Linen-Cotton Weighted Blanket (best for summer!)
YNM makes the only certified non toxic linen-cotton hybrid weighted blanket on the market that’s perfect for summer. It’s made with 80% OEKO-TEX certified non-toxic cotton and 20% French linen, premium glass beads and a synthetic fiberfill. I use the 15 lb one in Cal King and the weight feels like a gentle caress. It looks like a premium quilted blanket with tight box stitching, and even better in person than on the website. This has a seven-layer system, more glass beads and less fiberfill, interior duvet ties, and even weight distribution.
This is the most versatile weighted blanket I’ve experienced. On its own it looks like a statement blanket, functions as a comforter, and I can completely change how it looks with a duvet cover. I like using the blanket by itself, but it does have interior duvet ties so I can conveniently use it with a duvet cover. YNM also offers the widest number of weight options I’ve seen, from as light as 10 lbs to as heavy as 50 lbs. The linen-cotton one is only available via their site.
Price: $189.90 for Cal King
Material: 80% OEKO-TEX certified cotton and 20% French linen, glass beads
Style: Bed-size comforter
What I liked: offers the most versatility as a statement blanket + comforter + duvet insert, wide variety of size and weight options from very light to very heavy
What I didn’t like: feels a bit stiff and doesn’t give the cocoon sensation of a knit blanket.
Machine washable: Yes and tumble dry low but recommended dry-clean or hand wash for prolonged service life.

Bearaby Cotton Weighted Blanket
Bearaby is an OG weighted blanket brand that makes a truly non-toxic weighted blanket. I got my first one five years ago and I can attest to their durability. Their Cotton Weighted Blanket is made entirely of 100% organic cotton inside AND out. There’s no beads, pellets, or hidden filler. It has a chunky knit look and comes in 12 different colors and various sizes all the way to King size. My Bearaby blanket has proven itself to be very durable, given I’ve taken very good care of it over the years. It’s a hefty, chunky knit blanket that doubles as a decorative throw. I prefer using my Bearaby for lounging and relaxing to be honest and gravitate towards my comforter style weighted blankets for sleeping.

Price: $199 for 10 lbs throw size | $399 for Queen size 20 lbs
Material: 100% organic cotton inside AND out
Colors: 12
Style: Chunky braided knit in throw and bed sizes
What I liked: 100% natural and organic with no plastics or fillers
What I didn’t like: only comes in a knit style
Machine washable: Yes on a gentle cycle using mild laundry detergent. Do not use bleach. Lay flat to dry to avoid stretching out the natural loops. Do not hang dry or tumble dry

I tried Baloo Weighted Blanket
Baloo’s Weighted Blanket is truly non toxic with 100% cotton throughout, zero polyester linings or filling and lab tested lead-free glass microbeads. All the materials they use are certified to be free of all toxic and harmful chemicals so you can have peace of mind AND it’s machine washable. The beads are also sewn into three differently sized pockets for optimal balance and contouring of the body. I love that it’s fully machine washable and dryer-safe, but I do prefer to use a duvet cover to keep it clean. They don’t offer the most weight options I’ve seen, but still a solid range of 12, 15, 20, and 25 lb options across throw, full/queen, and king/cal king sizes. For me personally, the throw size only comes in 12 lbs and it’s a bit too heavy for just me.
The comforter option is basically identical except the sizing so it drapes over the edges of the bed instead of just sitting on top. I’ll be updating this post with my honest thoughts on their king size comforter so be sure to come back!

Price: $218 for Full/Queen
Colors: 9
Style: Throw and Comforter styles available
What I liked: Truly non toxic blanket made with 100% natural and organic cotton
What I didn’t like: throw only comes in one weight that’s too heavy for me
Machine washable: Yes wash in cold water on the gentle cycle with whites only, and dry on low heat. Dryer-safe

Avocado Weighted Blanket
Avocado makes a truly non toxic weighted blanket made entirely from OEKO-TEX certified cotton, including both the cover and fill. It’s completely filler free so there’s no glass beads or pellets and has evenly distributed weight all throughout. One thing to note is it’s made for one person only. Avocado’s weighted blankets are handmade by artisans in India and produced under the Better Cotton Initiative, a non-profit promoting better standards in cotton farming. This is one of the best organic bedding brands around, but since they don’t specialize in weighted blankets the options are severely limited ie there’s just one option.
Price: $212 for 15 lbs
Material: 100% OEKO-TEX certified cotton
Colors: Natural, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Navy
Style: Chunky braided knit
What I liked: truly non toxic blanket with no fillers or plastic
What I didn’t like: only comes in a single throw size
✔️ OEKO-TEX certified

I tried Bare Home Cotton Weighted Blanket (under $50!)
Bare Home Weighted Blanket is my top budget pick that’s OEKO-TEX certified non-toxic, under $50 (for a throw size) and comes in a 100% cotton shell filled with a mix of fiber and glass beads for even weight distribution. I think it’s great value for money if spending over a hundred bucks is out of your budget. Bare Home’s is hypoallergenic, with small, reinforced-stitch pockets that keep the fill from shifting around and comes in nine weight-and-size combos. The 7 pound one is adequately weighted for me as a 120 pound woman. It’s honestly nice looking on its own, but there’s also corner loops that let you put a duvet cover over it to change the look or keep it clean. It isn’t made of perfect materials, but still a better alternative to your typical weighted blanket. I use their Tencel sheets and duvet cover at home.
Price: $45 for 7 lbs
Material: OEKO-TEX certified cotton, glass beads, 10% polyester
Style: Throw Comforter
What I liked: accessible and affordable
What I didn’t like: fiber fill isn’t perfect
Machine washable: No
✔️ OEKO-TEX certified ✔️ Bed sizes

I tried Sleep & Glow Weighted Blanket
Sleep & Glow’s new Weighted Blanket is the most luxurious one I’ve tried to date and made with 400 thread-count OEKO-TEX certified cotton-satin. It’s so good it sold out quickly after it launched. It’s a bed-size blanket that actually has the look and feel of a true comforter. I actually love that it’s on the thin side, does’t feel oppressive, is very breathable and perfect for hot sleepers. With a warm duvet cover it could also work during colder months. Note that it’s not perfect in terms of materials and includes synthetic fiberfill, though it’s been certified nontoxic.
Price: $199 for 15 lbs
Material: OEKO-TEX certified cotton-satin 400 thread count, glass beads
Style: Comforter
What I liked: feels like an actual comforter
What I didn’t like: fiber fill isn’t perfect
Machine washable: Yes
