I tested the best non-toxic mouth tape brands and I’m sharing my brutally honest thoughts. The best mouth tape is made with skin nourishing ingredients and is free of PFAS, latex, silicone, and parabens.

Is Non Toxic Mouth Tape Better?
There’s a number of reasons I prefer clean ingredient mouth tape over conventional ones.
- No allergic reactions on lips and skin. Typical mouth tape can cause skin irritation.
- They’re thoughtfully designed to make you feel less claustrophobic. The best mouth tape allows for natural breathing if needed while still encouraging lips to stay closed.
- Contain skin nourishing ingredients that are actually good for lips and skin.
- No harmful or questionable ingredients
- Encourages nasal breathing and reduces dry mouth sustainably
Who Shouldn’t Use Mouth Tape
A quick note: this isn’t medical advice. If you have sleep apnea or any breathing issue, check with a doctor before trying mouth tape.
You shoudn’t use mouth tape if you have Nasal obstruction, Nasal congestion, Chronic allergies, Sinus infections, Enlarged tonsils, Deviated septum, or Heart issues https://health.clevelandclinic.org/mouth-taping

I tried VIO2 Unscented Mouth Tape
VIO2 is the most comfortable and breathable mouth tape I’ve tried as someone who doesn’t like the restrictive feeling of them. This is made in the USA from cotton and a hypoallergenic, medical-grade adhesive that’s latex-free, PFAS-free, and gluten-free. VIO2 is the best place to start for someone who’s new to mouth taping I feel because of how gentle and non-restrictive / claustrophobic it is.
It looks and feels very different from the full-coverage tapes I’ve tried and has a patented partial-coverage design that was developed by a dentist focused on airway health. It helps encourage a gentle lip seal rather than sealing the whole mouth shut. The edges of my lips feel free and unburdened with the line going down the center helping keep them closed. I like that I don’t have to commit to fully nose breathing all night, but I also won’t have my mouth gaping wide open either. I think it’s the perfect happy medium.
It also comes in two wear options to fit different face shapes. I found it genuinely easier to fall asleep in than a full-coverage tape, and there’s no uncomfortable pulling when removing it the next day. It’s very easy to remove from the paper backing too. VIO2 is the most affordable non toxic option I’ve tried so far and my top pick.

I tried Hush Hour Deep Sleep Mouth Tape
Hush Hour is a Korean-made US founded non-toxic mouth tape made with a medical-grade adhesive that’s free of latex, silicone, PFAS, and parabens. It’s certified by Korea’s Ministry of Food & Drug Safety and dermatologist-tested for skin irritation.
I love that there’s a little breathing hole in the center and the skincare actives like organic aloe and green tea. Hush Hour comes in an unscented and a Fresh Lemon scent. The Fresh Lemon scent has a super subtle scent that’s hardly noticeable and not overpowering at all.
The adhesive has strong grip and doesn’t budget throughout the night. I find the little tab that stick out in the back super convenient for removing the tape easily, especially when I’m tired and have zero energy at night. I’ve noticed less dry-mouth wake-ups. At $26.99 for 30 strips, it comes out to just under a dollar per tape per night.

I tried Mintier Collagen Peptide Mouth Tape
Mintier’s Collagen Peptide Mouth Tape is a skincare-infused non-toxic mouth tape made with 100% rayon and medical-grade adhesive. I love that it’s latex-free, skin-safe, hypoallergenic and collagen-infused. This one also has a small breathing hole for natural airflow while still keeping lips closed throughout the night.
I was surprised at how large their mouth tape is. It covers not only my lips but quite a bit of surrounding area around them. I also found their adhesive to be super strong compared to other mouth tapes. It stays on all night without issue but also makes for painful skin tugging in the morning.
The perforated paper backing is a bit annoying to remove when I’m tired at night. The adhesive is so strong on these I feel like I could reuse them twice, but because of the rip off style paper backing I can’t. Since it’s a higher price point compared to other nontoxic mouth tapes it would’ve been great to get more usage out of these super strong tapes.

My Final Thoughts
Is it something I do every single night? Definitely not. But I’m very prone to sleeping with my mouth gaping wide open, which is not only unsightly, I also end up with a dry mouth, dry throat, and more gross mucus stuck in my throat in the morning. On the nights I mouth tape I don’t notice all this. I also feel like it’s skincare because it prevents my overall facial structure staying in a dragged down position and creating tension in my neck during the night. In a way it’s face taping and mouth taping in one.
