I tested out non toxic bras from eight different organic underwear brands and I’m sharing the ones I love. The best nontoxic bra is made with natural fiber materials and without harmful toxins, PFAS, BPA, petrochemicals, polyamide or pesticides. Plus, they’ve gotta be cute and comfy!

Nowadays there’s no shortage of amazing organic underwear companies making the healthiest bras with certified non toxic fabrics! It’s not just about GOTS organic materials though – comfort, style, coverage and support are all important.
Overall the best organic bras that perform closest to a typical bra are Organic Basics and Thirdlove Cloud Cotton Bra. The best nontoxic bralette are Subset’s Keyhole Bra and Negative’s Non Wire Bra.

Wait, My Bra is Toxic?
Yes, this study by Mamavation shows that 50% of the tested bras contained PFAS aka “forever chemicals.” Typical bras can contain BPA, synthetic dyes, PFAS, toxic solvents, formaldehyde resins and chlorine bleach.
Bras sit on the most intimate area of the body for at least eight hours a day and are in direct contact with breast tissue, sweat glands and tons of lymphatic nodes and vessels. It’s important to switch intimates, pajamas, and activewear since they directly touch our skin in absorbent areas while we sweat. Plus, once you feel natural fibers sitting against your skin it’s hard to go back to the tacky feeling of synthetic fabrics.

Types of Non-Toxic Bras
Material: Organic cotton, bamboo, Tencel lyocell, merino wool, modal
- Organic cotton: safest fabric available and made without pesticides
- Modal: made from the pulp of beech trees and is the brand name of viscose rayon
- Bamboo: super soft but make sure it’s made in a closed loop process
- Tencel lyocell: made from eucalyptus trees. Make sure it’s made in a closed loop process.
- Merino wool: moisture wicking and super soft but make sure it doesn’t have a chemical coating called “superwash”
Style: Pullover, Back Closure, Sports bras, Bralette, Full Coverage, Nursing, Wireless, with Underwire
- Pullover: can only be pulled over the head and isn’t adjustable
- Back closure: allows you to adjust the bra
- Sports bra: for workouts and always pullover style
- Bralette: doesn’t have an underwire and is great for lounging
- Full coverage: covers the entire boob area and is non-sheer
- Underwire: provides structure and support
- Wireless: doesn’t have an underwire but usually an elastic band for support
- Nursing: can be unclipped for easy nursing or pumping
I’ll be comparing all my favorite natural and organic bras to help you find the best one for YOU.

Bottom: Unlined Demi Bra in 36B
I tried Organic Basics Core Unlined Demi Bra
Organic Basics is my top pick if you’re looking for well-designed non toxic bras that are affordable, stylish and comfy. They stand out from the crowd because they offer both non-toxic padded and unpadded bras that are ACTUALLY SUPPORTIVE. I have their Unlined Demi Bra and love that it’s so soft, comfy and fully customizable with both adjustable straps and a hook-and-eye back closure. This is an underwire bra that’s unpadded and made with 90% certified organic cotton. For me this provides decent support and full coverage. If you need something that feels similar to a conventional bra but made with safe, natural fibers I would start here.

Price range: $50-$58
Materials: 90% GOTS Certified Organic Cotton, 10% Elastane
Fit: slightly small for me but mostly true to size
What I liked: They offer padded bra options. These feel almost identical to a traditional bra.
What I didn’t like: runs a bit snug
I tried Organic Basics Flex Triangle Bralette
Organic Basics’ Flex Triangle Bralette is a wireless pullover style bra and I love how soft and stretchy it feels. It’s double-layered for subtle shaping and has an elastic underband for support. It’s not adjustable in the back so getting the right size is important and the Medium felt too tight for me. I would definitely size up. The strap lengths ARE adjustable and I like that it provides medium support, decent coverage and is super flattering for my small chest. Overall, I think this is an excellent bralette but if you can afford to pay a small premium, Subset and Negative’s bra surpasses Organic Basics Bralette in my opinion.

Price range: $50-$58
Materials: 91% GOTS Certified Organic Cotton, 9% Elastane
Fit: I recommend sizing up. Medium felt like a small to me.
What I liked: great support and good coverage for a bralette
What I didn’t like: not adjustable

I tried Thirdlove Cloud Cotton Bra
I tested both Thirdlove’s organic cloud cotton bra and their regular strapless bra and found them to be very supportive and full coverage. Thirdlove is another brand that I feel offers organic bras that feel closest to a traditional bra, is actually supportive and would be great for large busts. They’re not a non toxic bra company per se, but they do offer an organic cotton line with several bras made with 93% organic cotton. This is also the only brand I found that offers organic bras in half sizes and all the way up to H cup. Figuring out what cup size you are can be confusing though. I thought A1/2 would be a perfect fit for me since I’m barely a B but I couldn’t really tell a major difference to be honest. A 36 band felt tight on me from another brand so I decided try 38 and it was way too wide. Overall, Thirdlove feels very high quality and similar to a conventional bra.
Price: $45-$74
Materials: 93% Organic Cotton, 7% Spandex
What I liked: feels like an actual traditional bra with real support and coverage
What I didn’t like: figuring out your cup size is tricky

I tried Subset Keyhole Bra
Subset is THE most supportive bralette ever and the clear winner for me out of all the organic cotton bralettes I’ve tried. I don’t think this nontoxic underwear brand is talked about enough, because I was immediately blown away by how super well-made and high quality their bra feels. The fabric feels more durable and overall the structure is sturdier for a similar market price. I love how buttery soft to the touch their certified organic cotton feels. Plus, it’s got both an adjustable back closure and straps. I find that it provides great support, is NOT sheer and the double lining gives very good coverage. Their bra is made of 95% certified organic cotton with just 5% elastane. Overall, a really really well made bralette-y bra.

Price: $62
Fit: true to size
Materials: 95% Certified Organic Cotton, 5% Elastane
Straps: 70% Recycled Polyester, 30% Spandex
Hardware: Recycled Zinc & Alloy
Band: 100% Recycled Polyester & Natural Rubber
Closure: 78% Regenerated Nylon, 22% Elastane
What I liked: extremely well made and stands out from other bralettes
What I didn’t like: Just wish they offered more styles

I tried Negative Whipped Non Wire Bra (luxe!)
Negative’s Whipped Non Wire Bra is the most insanely silky soft, luxurious nontoxic bra I’ve tried to date. Compared to all my other bras this has the most barely there feel. I’d consider it a bralette more than an actual bra though. Negative offers an expansive line of non toxic bras in certified non-toxic nylon, modal and cotton and in all sorts of style that feel very IT GIRL. Their Whipped Non Wire Bra feels like I’m virtually wearing nothing and is made with THE softest material I’ve ever experienced – micro modal imported from Austria. This fabric feels like a silky cloud but it IS thin so not ideal if you need full coverage.
The bra is fully adjustable via the straps and the hook-and-eye clasps in the back. There’s no wire but it has a very narrow stretchy band that’s not plant-based but OEKO-TEX certified safe. I find it sufficiently supportive enough for a small chest but the band isn’t substantial enough for larger chests (there’s a different version with a wider band for support). Sizing seems to run small on this particular bra because I got size 2 according to their chart and on the loosest clasp it was still a bit too tight. Thankfully, I found the exchange process was very easy and quick.

Price range: $70-$75
Materials: 91% Micro Modal 9% Lycra
Fit: runs small. I recommend sizing up.
What I liked: The silky soft texture is insanely comfortable and it’s super breathable.
What I didn’t like: I’d consider this a bralette and not a bra. There’s only five sizes.

I tried Mate The Label Bralette
Mate the Labels’ bralette is so breathable and comfy, it feels like I’m not wearing anything. This definitely feels like a lounge bralette. I didn’t feel that it the same support or craftsmanship as some of the other nontoxic bralettes I tried. Mate offers two kinds of bralettes made with 95% Organic Cotton and 5% Spandex. They’re an organic clothing brand first and foremost, so underwear isn’t their specialty like some of the other brands in this list. Like Pact, I wouldn’t recommend them unless you’re wanting to get all your shopping done in one place. The bralette would definitely not provide enough support for large bust sizes.
Price: $44
Materials: 95% Organic Cotton 5% Spandex
Fit: True to size
What I liked: very breathable
What I didn’t like: very thin band, not supportive for larger busts

I tried Kent Organic Supima Cotton Scoop Soft Bra (100% organic)
Kent is one of the few organic underwear brands that makes a 100% GOTS organic cotton bra with 0% synthetics or plastics. Their Scoop Soft Bra is made entirely with organic supima cotton, which is the highest quality cotton on the market, and zero polyester, nylon, polyamide, petrochemicals, pesticides or micro plastics. Because there’s absolutely no plastic materials, keep in mind it’s not going to feel like the other bras in my list.

I was surprised at how cute the design is with thin, breathable accent panels on both sides. This pullover scoop bra is double paneled, but it still feels quite thin to me and isn’t as thick as Organic Basics or Subset. Getting the right size is important because it doesn’t have a lot of stretch and you can’t adjust it in any way. I’m a 36B and the medium feels tight so I’d definitely size up. The plant-based band feels sturdy and provides decent support for a small chest. I would not recommend this bra for large chests. Side note, their panties do fit true to size for me though and are SO comfy.
Price: $58
Materials: 100% GOTS certified organic supima cotton
Fit: I recommend sizing up for loose comfort. Medium feels a bit snug.
What I liked: Very breathable and made with 100% organic cotton and nothing else
What I didn’t like: not adjustable and doesn’t provide much support or stretch. Only one style offered.

I tried CAKES Sticky Bra (non toxic)
If you’re looking for a nontoxic silicone adhesive bra or sticky nipple covers, my top recommendation is CAKES. These are made with non-toxic silicone and medical-grade adhesive without any skin irritants. The silicone is really thin, has amazing grip and actually stays put, last eight uses, and come in five sizes plus three shades. I love how versatile it is for when I don’t want to wear a bra or have a tricky neckline and still need to cover my nips. I can even turn any unpadded nontoxic bra into a padded one by putting this bra or their nipple pasties on underneath my actual bra. Since it only lasts eight uses, I’ve been saving this only when I really need to use it. It’s recommended not to wear for more than eight hours at a time and place them back on the protective sheets.
Price: $46
Fit: comes in 5 sizes
What I liked: so versatile and a convenient solution
What I didn’t like: only lasts a limited number of uses

I tried Pact Bralette
I tested Pact’s lace bralette and for a bralette I found it to be very supportive and not at all sheer. The fabric feels thick and durable and feels similar to Organic Basics bralette but for a more reasonable price. The medium fits true to size for me and the band feels comfy and stretchy. Pact makes three organic bras, so not much selection here and their styles are pretty basic. I wouldn’t recommend them for larger chests. Pact is convenient if you’re looking to shop for a variety of organic clothes in one place and have a small bust size. Overall, I think Pact’s bras offer great value for money for the quality. Just make sure to use a gentle natural laundry detergent for delicate underwear to help them last.
Price range: $38-$44
Materials: 91% GOTS Certified Organic Cotton, 9% Elastane
Fit: True to size
What I liked: supportive and full coverage
What I didn’t like: styles are very basic
