I’ve used a wide variety of organic duvet covers over the last five years, and I’m sharing the best ones according to fabric preference and sleep style. The best duvet cover is made with organic fibers and without any toxins, petrochemicals, microplastics, allergens or any questionable materials.

I’m sharing brutally honest, detailed reviews of each non toxic duvet cover I’ve tried and what sets each apart, so you can find the best one for YOU.
Non Toxic Duvet Cover Certifications
The two main certifications you should look for are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and OEKO-TEX Standard 100.
- GOTS covers the whole supply chain: it requires at least 95% certified organic fiber, bans formaldehyde, chlorine bleach, heavy metals, and PFAS in processing, and also audits for fair wages and safe labor conditions.
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tests the finished fabric for harmful residues (formaldehyde, heavy metals, pesticides, PFAS). It doesn’t verify organic content or how the product was made, but it’s a good baseline and safer than duvet covers that aren’t OEKO-TEX certified at all.

Material Types of Duvet Covers
Materials: Cotton, Linen, Bamboo, Hemp, Tencel Lyocell, Silk and combinations of these
Weave Type
- Percale: crisp and cooling with a matte finish, great for hot sleepers
- Sateen: has a silky soft and smooth feel with a subtle sheen finish
- Flannel: Has a brushed texture and feel that’s great for cold nights
- Jersey: Soft jersey knit has a cozy warmth to it
- Tencel Lyocell: silky and breathable
- Silk: feels silky smooth and frictionless (this is a little too slippery for me personally but there are some amazing innovations being made. Clementine Sleepwear, for instance, makes 100% GOTS certified organic mulberry silk duvet covers with 22-momme weight, OEKO-TEX non-toxic dyes, and infused with skincare actives like hyaluronic acid, squalane, collagen, and silver ions). So far I’ve only used something similar as a pillowcase cover from Sleep & Glow.

I tried Coyuchi Organic Percale Duvet Cover
Coyuchi was the first organic duvet cover I tried five years ago and I can’t recommend them enough. Their non-toxic duvet cover is made with 100% GOTS certified organic cotton grown in Turkey and woven in Portugal without any pesticides or harmful chemicals. Coyuchi is GOTS, MadeSafe, and Fair Trade certified and creates beautifully designed and high quality organic bedding that’s coastal-inspired. My Coyuchi duvet has geometric shapes stitched onto white percale and a rustic, crinkled finish that I feel perfectly embodies relaxed California luxury. The textures, patterns and colors are so elegant looking and calming. The coconut shell buttons have held up well and not fallen off even after all these years. Coyuchi is on the pricier end, but worth it in my opinion if you appreciate luxury.
Price range: $218-$644 for Queen size
Types available: Percale, Sateen, Linen
Colors: various coastal-inspired patterns and colors

I tried Cozy Earth Linen Duvet Cover
I’ve used both Cozy Earth’s linen duvet cover and bamboo duvet cover for the past two years and love both of them with a slight preference for their linen version. It’s made from 100% premium Belgian flax linen and OEKO-TEX certified to be free of harmful chemicals. I love how premium and sturdy their linen fabric feels, even if linen has a more rough texture than any other natural material. It’s naturally cooling, allows for great airflow and perfect for the hotter summer months. It also has that really timeless, elevated look that only linen provides. The button snap closures inside are pretty darn convenient with my matching bamboo comforter from them (one of the comfiest safer options I’ve tried)

I tried Cozy Earth Bamboo Duvet Cover
I’ve had my Cozy Earth Bamboo Duvet Cover for two years now and it’s made from 100% premium bamboo viscose, is OEKO-TEX certified non toxic, hypoallergenic and moisture wicking. I find their duvet cover to be texturally identical to their bamboo sheets with a silky smooth feel and breathable sateen weave. It’s actually nice having different material types for sheets versus duvet cover though. For instance, I enjoy a crisp, breathable percale below with soft cocooning sateen or bamboo above. I HAVE noticed after years of usage and washes, it has lost some of its initial silkiness and starts to feel more textured.

Cozy Earth bamboo duvet covers come in a whopping twenty different colors and patterns, so there’s one for everyone’s taste and style. I personally prefer their neutral earthy colors like oat and driftwood, versus the Pacific Blue in the photo above (showing up lighter with my camera and is darker IRL). I’ve found that bamboo and Tencel can get very wrinkly looking compared to cotton and need to be ironed to look nice.

I can confirm the zipper quality has greatly improved now from a few years ago.

I tried Bare Home TENCEL Lyocell Duvet Cover (budget!)
Bare Home’s duvet cover is the cheapest option in my list and made with Tencel Lyocell which is made from wood fiber and OEKO-TEX certified to be free of harmful substances. Bare Home features a sateen weave for a silky feel and internal tie closures. I will say you get what you pay for and these tencel lyocell sheets do not feel as silky smooth or high-end as say bamboo or organic cotton in sateen weave, for instance. They are quite cooling though. The duvet cover comes in four colors: white, dark grey, light grey, and indigo. Bare Home usually has generous sales going on year round and you can get these for under $100, which makes them an affordable better than conventional option. Mine mentions they’re made in India on the tag.

Naturepedic Organic Cotton Percale Duvet Cover
Naturepedic is an OG organic mattress brand and offers the most variety of organic duvet covers I’ve seen including Supima Cotton, percale, sateen, muslin and waffle options. Their Cotton Percale Duvet Cover is made with 100% GOTS certified organic cotton and a 300 thread count in a GOTS certified organic facility in India. I find their duvet cover to have a crisp, sturdy feel that’s cooling enough for summer and cozy enough for winter. I absolutely love the undyed version, which I can never find with other bedding brands. Instead of being dyed, they have the shade of the natural fibers and look so calming and earthy. It makes me feel like I’m truly sleeping in nature. They also have the best selection of organic pillows.
Price: $239 for Queen size
Types available: Percale, Sateen, Supima Cotton, Cotton Linen, Muslin, Waffle
Colors: Arctic Snow, Cream, Pebble Grey, Mineral Blue, Sage, Washed Cornflower, Mist, Petal, Sunny, Wild Bergamot, Undyed

I tried Ela Lane Heritage Organic Sateen Duvet Cover (Hotel quality)
My newest discovery is Ela Lane’s GOTS certified organic duvet covers and I’m so impressed by their quality and design! These are made with 100% certified organic cotton with long-staple, 60‒80-yarn count thread and handcrafted in Portugal. These feel almost identical to hotel duvet covers but without the toxins and have a very sophisticated look of hem stitching all around the borders (and a navy cording option for the percale cover). The sateen feels smooth and silky with a slight crispness to it I’m surprised by. It feels very light and airy compared to other organic cotton duvet covers — with just a subtle amount of silkiness. A high-end hidden gem in the world of organic bedding!

I tried Ela Lane Heirloom Organic Percale Duvet Cover
Ela Lane’s percale duvet cover has a crisper feel and feels structured and refined. I find that it’s got an airiness that allows for solid airflow throughout the night. Compared to other brands’ percale duvet covers I’ve tried, Ela Lane’s feels very breathable. Percale is already best for hot sleepers, but theirs in particular is suited for hot sleepers in my opinion. The navy cording all around the borders of the duvet cover and shams give it a super sophisticated look. Feels like my bed is a 5-star hotel stay! The seashell buttons are SO pretty and large and it comes with one extra one sewn to the inside tag.

I tried Of An Origin DreamWeave Linen Cotton Duvet Cover
Of An Origin is the only non toxic bedding brand on the market offering an affordable cotton linen hybrid duvet cover. The blend of linen and cotton still has the look and feel of linen to me but with just a touch more softness than 100% linen. I find the combo of two natural fibers gives the best of the both worlds, the breathability of linen and the cozy warmth of cotton. It’s got interior ties and works well all year round. Of An Origin is free from harmful chemicals and ethically made with Fair Trade practices. They don’t have any certifications, but are much more budget friendly. It does take a little longer to ship than most other brands since their bedding is made to order.
