nontoxic bronzer clean ingredients

I tried the Best Clean Bronzers

I’ve used a ton of natural and nontoxic bronzers over the last ten years, and I’m sharing the best ones that deliver on purity and performance. The best bronzer is made of clean ingredients and without any harmful synthetics.

Types of Non Toxic Bronzers

  • Cream stick: the most convenient hands-free way to apply bronzer and gives a dewy or satin finish
  • Cream pot: requires applying with a brush or fingers and gives a semi-matte finish
  • Cream-to-powder: gives a hydrated matte finish
  • Powder: gives a matte look

I tried INIKA Organic Baked Mineral Bronzer

INIKA’s Baked Mineral Bronzer is an OG favorite in the clean beauty space and one of the only 100% natural bronzers on the market. This powder bronzer is made without any synthetic fillers, additives, chemicals or pressing agents like Talc. Shade Sunkissed has the most natural light golden hue and zero sparkle but it has just the slightest hint of luminescence. It’s perfect for just subtly warming up the face versus serious contouring and has the most satisfying velvety texture. I experience hardly any kickup.

I tried Westman Atelier Sun Tone Bronzing Creme

Westman Atelier’s bronzer is one of the most interesting bronzers I’ve tried and comes as a cream-to-powder cushion that reminds me of Korean makeup. The formula isn’t entirely natural but is free of PEGs, silicones, talc, gluten, phthalates and parabens and has some thoughtful skincare ingredients like avocado fruit and shiitake mushroom extracts. It feels so velvety and creamy, blends out super easily, has zero sparkle and dries very quickly to a natural finish that’s neither a true satin nor matte. It comes with two shades, one darker than the other, so you can create dimensional looks like a true makeup artist. I find that a little goes a long way and I only need the slightest dab. Overall, I find Westman Atelier’s bronzer to be sophisticated and high-performance enough for mature skin. I have their lightest duo Soleil Parfait I and would have liked it to have a lighter bronze shade as both feel quite dark for my skin tone.

I tried OGEE Hydraganics Sculpted Face Stick

OGEE’s Sculpted Face Stick is a 100% natural cream bronzer that’s truly nontoxic and organic with green coffee oil, cold-pressed jojoba oil, sal tree resin, elderberry fruit extract in an organic olive fruit oil and beeswax base. It’s the only nearly entirely organic cream bronzer I’ve found and actually performs like a true contour stick. It’s got a buttery consistency and has a decent amount of luminescent shimmer to it. I love how it glides on smoothly, is easily blendable and gives a satin finish. Shade copper is their middle shade, which ended up being a little too dark for me, so next time I’d go for their lightest Amber shade.

I tried 100 Percent Pure Cocoa Pigmented Bronzer

100 Percent Pure’s Cocoa Pigmented Bronzer is another OG tried-and-true favorite in clean beauty with the interesting twist of having fruit and cocoa pigments, gems and minerals. It’s full of skin nourishing vitamins and antioxidants from tomato, berries and coffee and has no sparkles but does have the subtlest amount of shimmer to it. The all natural formula begins with a base of cocoa powder and cocoa seed butter and is infused with pigments from peach fruit, pomegranate, blackberry, apricot, black tea, açaí berry and more. It’s giving Mother Nature makeup ha! It’s a very fine powder that feels velvety and goes on evenly with minimal fallout. It does feel less finely milled than INIKA’s. Cocoa Glow is the deepest shade of warm bronze so next time I’d wanna go for Cocoa Gem.

merit beauty bronzer clean
shade Quince

I tried Merit Beauty Bronze Balm

Merit Beauty’s has the slickest feel and is more of a gel solid consistency than a true cream consistency. It glides on so smoothly and is a dream to blend. I find the shade Quince to be super natural looking and it gives a hydrated glassy look. I love that there’s no shimmer or sparkles to this. This is a very sheer bronzer that isn’t super buildable in my opinion, so if serious contouring is your goal, I would go straight for a darker shade. My complaints with this product are the ingredients are not that clean and the super long cap feels unnecessary.

I tried Tower 28 Bronzino Cream Bronzer

Tower 28’s bronzer is actually both a bronzer and illuminator in one and has a high amount of shimmer to it. It’s super convenient if you want to cut down on using two different products, bronzer and highlighter. The consistency does feel a bit waxy to me personally. The ingredients aren’t all natural but much much cleaner than conventional with some natural oils, butters and botanicals. I think if you’re looking for sensitive skin friendly high-shimmer bronzer this could be a good fit for you. My complaint with this product is the packaging breaks easily and you get half the amount of product compared to other clean bronzers. So it might seem budget friendly at first but it ends up costing the same as the higher end brands.
