I’ve tested a bunch of natural lube brands over the years and I’m finally sharing the best ones. The best non toxic lubricant is made with plant goodness, pH balanced, low osmolality and free of synthetics, glycerin, paraben, petroleum and chemical fragrance.

Ways to Use Lube
Lube helps with intimate activities, but there’s actually a bunch of different ways to use it both in and out of the bedroom!
- As an intimate moisturizer for dryness or itching
- To assist with toys and dilators
- To help insert a menstrual cup or disc
- To increase pleasure and duration during intercourse
- Reduces irritation during intercourse

Types of Lube
All the various types of non-toxic lube can be overwhelming, so I’m breaking it down for you. You should look for a lube that is pH balanced, safe for condom use, osmolalities of less than 380 mOsm/kg.
- Water-based: The gentlest type of lube safe for even the most sensitive skin. It’s safe to use with condoms and toys, but dries up quickly.
- Oil-based: Lasts longer and is great for moisturizing but may break down condoms and more of a hassle to clean up.
- Aloe-based: Lasts longer than water-based lube and has added skincare benefits
- Silicone-based: This is not natural but lasts the longest.

I tried Coconu Lubricant
Coconut is an OG in the natural lube space and offers one of the only USDA Certified Organic lubes on the market. It’s edible, pH balanced, safe for condom use, hypoallergenic and has a simple handful of organic ingredients like coconut oil, sweet almond oil, and shea butter. As I get older I’m experiencing more dryness down there and this oil-based lube is super slick and lasts the longest. It surprisingly has a slick consistency that’s really similar to lube despite being made of oils and butters and isn’t heavy at all. There’s no scent to this and I find a little goes a very long way.
Price: $26.99 for 3oz
Key actives: certified organic coconut oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, shea butter, and beeswax
Options: Water based and Oil based
✔️ USDA Certified Organic ✔️pH balanced ✔️ Latex condom & toy safe ✔️ Hypoallergenic ✔️ Edible

I tried Nixit Water Based Personal Lubricant
Nixit’s water-based lube is 100% natural, organic, pH balanced, and free of parabens, glycerin, sugar and sulphates. It gives great slippage and also works with condoms, toys and menstrual cups. I don’t detect any scent or taste when using this. It’s technically organic aloe-based so it has a bit of a thicker consistency than water-based lube to last longer. It feels like a light serum and gives great slip This is surprisingly budget friendly and has a fantastic variety of skin-nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and peony rot. I also love the convenience of the pump packaging. There’s no detectable scent other than the freshness of the aloe.
Price: $19 for 4oz
Key actives: organic aloe leaf extract, peony root, Vitamin E, Hyaluronic Acid

I tried Good Clean Love Almost Naked Organic Personal Lubricant
Good Clean Love makes the most easily accessible natural lube on the market that’s available at tons of grocery stores like Whole Foods, Walgreens, CVS, Target, Albertsons, Kroger and Thrive Market. It feels the most similar to your typical lube and truly feels like gel. Almost Naked is an aloe and water hybrid, iso-osmotic to protect and stabilize moisture, and made with a proprietary lactic acid blend to encourage healthy bacteria growth. I find it to have a thick gel consistency that lasts longer compared to other water-based lubes. It gives an excellent smooth glide, mess-free clean up and has a neutral taste. There’s zero artificial fragrance or flavors, petrochemicals, parabens, or glycerin.
Price: $16.99 for 4oz
Key actives: Organic aloe, Propietary Lactic Acid Blend
✔️pH balanced ✔️ Latexand polyisoprene condoms safe ✔️ Silicone toy safe ✔️ Osmolality rating: 250 – 400 mOsmol/kg ✔️ vegan

I tried Medicine Mama’s Intimate Glide
Medicine Mama is one of the more high-end natural lubricants I’ve tried and has an aloe leaf base mixed with water and actives like snow mushroom, Sodium Hyaluronate, Linseed Seed extract, Oat Kernel extract. It’s pH balanced, condom safe, vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, hormone-free, glycerin-free, paraben-free. I love the hydration and anti-aging ingredients, light serum consistency and there’s zero stickiness or mess. I’ve experienced no irritation even though there’s a lot of actives in this, and it’s nice knowing that they’re actually good for my sensitive tissues.
Price: $24.99 for 4oz
Key actives: snow mushroom, Sodium Hyaluronate, Linseed Seed extract, Oat Kernel extrac
✔️pH balanced 4.0-5.0 ✔️ Latex condom compatible ✔️ Osmolality rating: 50-180 mosm/kg ✔️ vegan

I tried Necessaire The Sex Gel
Necessaire’s The Sex Gel is the most luxurious nontoxic lube I’ve tried so far. This is a water and aloe hybrid lubricant that’s FDA-approved and doesn’t contain any silicones, parabens, PEGs, fragrance or phthalates. The Sex Gel is both an intimate moisturizer and lube with anti-aging skincare actives like Allantoin, Lactic Acid and Sodium Hyaluronate. I find the consistency feels like a hydrating serum and has a decent level of slickness. I don’t detect any scent. I love how it actually stays wet without drying out quickly and doesn’t feel sticky or greasy. A little goes a long way, I don’t have to keep reapplying, and there’s no clean up required after. My only complaint is that it’s quite pricey and costs double of most other natural lubes on the market.
Price: $28 for 1.7oz
Key actives: Allantoin, Lactic Acid and Sodium Hyaluronate
✔️pH balanced ✔️ Latex condom & device safe ✔️ FDA approved ✔️ vegan

I tried Maude Shine Aloe Water Based Lubricant
Maude is an aloe-based lube with an organic aloe base and botanicals like quinoa, mushroom extract and oat kernel extract. They’ve gone above and beyond with product testing and their non-toxic lube is the only one I’ve found that’s FDA cleared, meaning it’s been confirmed safe for internal use and as a lubricant. It’s pH-balanced, free from parabens, glycerin, and fragrance and comes housed in a beautiful dark glass bottle with pump. I have the 8oz bottle which is way more practical and eco-friendly because water-based lubes go pretty fast. It has a very light, watery consistency and no scent.
Price: $18 for 4oz
Key actives: organic aloe, Sodium Hyaluronate, quinoa, mushroom extract
✔️pH balanced ✔️ Latex condom and device safe ✔️ Vegan ✔️ Hypoallergenic ✔️ FDA 510(k) cleared

I tried Sliquid H20 Natural Intimate Lubricant
Sliquid is an affordable water-based lube using plant cellulose and is non toxic, hypoallergenic and completely free of DEA, gluten, glycerin, glycol, parabens, PEG, propylene glycol, sorbitol, and sulfates. It’s got one of the simplest formulas I’ve encountered and is unflavored, unscented, and non-staining. I appreciate the packaging is discreet and looks more like a bottle of hand sanitizer than lube. The consistency is super light and thin and there’s no detectable scent. Because it’s water-based it doesn’t last as long as the others in my list, but it’s also the cheapest.
Price: $14 for 4.2oz
Key actives: Plant cellulose
✔️pH balanced ✔️ Latex, rubber, plastic & silicone toy safe ✔️ Hypoallergenic ✔️ vegan
