clean body oil natural nontoxic

Best Body Oils in Clean Beauty

I’ve tried dozens of nontoxic body oils over the years, and I’m sharing my curated favorites. I would repurchase these over and over again. The best ones are made with skin-moisturizing botanical oils and without any harmful ingredients.

Why choose body oil vs lotion

I often prefer to apply body oil after a shower than a lotion, and it’s for a number of reasons.

  • Body oils are 100% concentrated because they are lotions without water
  • No preservatives are needed (since there’s no water content hooray!)
  • More value for money (again, not paying for water!)
  • Lock in hydration. If you have dry skin, apply a body serum or lotion before oil to add hydration. A body oil provides moisturization but not hydration. It will help seal in and prevent hydration from escaping.

Best way to use body oil

The best way to apply body oil is right after a shower. Always apply body oil to damp skin. This helps it absorb faster AND better, while locking in hydration. Otherwise, use a body mist or face toner first and then apply oil.

I tried May Lindstrom The Good Stuff

This has been and continues to remain the best body oil I’ve tried in the green / clean beauty space. It’s an intoxicating blend of cacao, rose, lavender, and ylang-ylang and feels and looks like liquid gold. By far, The Good Stuff is THE most expensive body oil I’ve ever tried but if I could choose only one body oil forever it would be this one. If you’re a gourmand person, this will blow you away. It’s made entirely with Certified Organic, Wild Harvested, Fair Trade, Raw & Unrefined ingredients. It feels so silky and nourishing and has a blend of Macadamia Seed Oil, Olive Fruit Oil, Plum Seed Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Seabuckthorn Kernel Extract, and Bulgarian Rose Flower Oil.

I love how liquid-like and light Primally Pure’s body oils are. Their Blue Tansy one is my favorite because of how special blue tansy smells. It’s also wildly healing since it contains camphor and chamazulene, which is anti-inflammatory. This begins in a base of organic fractionated coconut oil and contains kukui nut oil, pomegranate seed oil, argan oil and sweet almond oil. It sinks in and absorbs relatively quickly!

body oil hinoki wonder valley

I discovered Wonder Valley’s Hinoki Body Oil and now I’m hooked on hinoki scents. This has got Japanese hinoki, Siberian fir, and Cedarwood which makes for the most sensuous woodsy scent ever. The luscious blend of squalane, sea buckthorn, sunflower seed and olive oil are light yet moisturizing. My only complaint is having to vigorously shake this heavy glass bottle to get the oil out instead of being able to use a pump.

The Hawaiian scent and ingredients transport me to my favorite place on earth. It’s silky yet deeply moisturizing and has an uplifting, yummy scent of vanilla and citrus. I love that it has heavy duty actives that are good enough for the face like Vitamin C, AstaxanthinLupin Seed Extract and Sour Sop Seed Oil. They did not cut any cheap corners with the formulation!
