I’ve tried dozens of nontoxic body oils over the years, and I’m sharing my curated favorites that are actually worth getting. I would repurchase these over and over again. The best body oils are made with skin-nourishing botanical oils and without any harmful or questionable ingredients.

Why choose body oil vs lotion
I often prefer to apply body oil straight out of a shower than a lotion, and it’s for a number of reasons.
- Body oils are 100% concentrated because they are lotions without water
- No preservatives are needed (since there’s no water content hooray!)
- More value for money (again, not paying for water!)
- Longer shelf life. No water content means it doesn’t expire or go bad as fast.
- Lock in hydration. If you have dry skin, apply a body serum or lotion before oil to add hydration. A body oil provides moisturization but not hydration. It will help seal in and prevent hydration from escaping.
- Better value for money: Body oils last me much longer than lotions. Instead of paying for mostly water, I’m paying for a 100% concentrated formula of plant oils where a little goes a long way.
- Amazing for dry skin and anti-aging. Plant oils are jampacked with vitamins, antioxidants and minerals to deeply nourish skin and fight signs of aging.

Best way to use body oil
The best way to apply body oil is right after a shower when skin is freshly cleansed and exfoliated. Always apply body oil to damp skin. This helps it absorb faster AND better, while locking in hydration. Otherwise, use a body mist or face toner first and then apply oil. To maximize the benefits of a body oil, use one of my favorite natural body scrubs so you’re applying to fresh skin and not dead skin cells.
I tried May Lindstrom The Good Stuff
May Lindstrom has been and continues to remain the best body oil I’ve tried in the green / clean beauty space. It feels sooo silky and nourishing and has a blend of Macadamia Seed Oil, Olive Fruit Oil, Plum Seed Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Seabuckthorn Kernel Extract, and Bulgarian Rose Flower Oil. The best body oil for anti aging! It’s a heavenly blend of cacao, rose, lavender, and ylang-ylang and feels and looks like liquid gold. The Good Stuff is pricey but if I could choose only one product forever it would be this one. The scent is absolutely divine – sensual and sophisticated chocolatey heaven. It’s made entirely with certified organic, wild harvested, fair trade, and raw ngredients. They’ve got a shimmer version and non-shimmer version, but I personally love the shimmer!
Consistency: Medium weight
Scent: chocolatey floral

I tried Saltair Santal Bloom (budget!)
Almost all my holy grail body oils are pricey AF, but Saltair is just as good and way more affordable. It’s got fermented saururus, kukui, cacay, moringa and squalane along with a biomimetic blend of plant actives. They’ve got the widest variety of scents to choose from so there’s something for everyone. I personally love Santal Bloom which has notes of Creamy Sandalwood, Amber and Musks. This feels sooo silky and lightweight yet impactful enough to deeply nourish. My skin feels soft and supple after applying.

I tried Phlur Beach Skin Body Oil
If you’re looking for a body oil that contains clean perfume and can perform like fine fragrance, I recommend Phlur’s Beach Skin Body Oil. It is soo silky and contains skin nourishing oils like Meadowfoam Seed Oil and jojoba oil. Beach Skin is the perfect warm weather scent and smells like salted air, sand and sun-kissed skin. Sinks in effortlessly and leaves my skin with a subtle shimmer that I can’t wait to show off in warm weather.

I tried Wonder Valley Hinoki Body Oil
I discovered Wonder Valley’s Hinoki Body Oil and now I’m hooked on hinoki scents. This has got Japanese hinoki, Siberian fir, and Cedarwood which makes for the most sensuous woodsy scent ever. The luscious blend of squalane, sea buckthorn, sunflower seed and olive oil are light yet moisturizing. My only complaint is having to vigorously shake this heavy glass bottle to get the oil out instead of being able to use a pump.
Consistency: lightweight
Scent: grounding
Price: $85 for 6.8 oz

I tried Leahlani Pamplemousse Replenishing Body Oil
This is another great nontoxic body oil for anti aging. I adore Hawaiian brand Leahlani’s Pamplemousse Replenishing Body Oil and have used multiple bottles of this over the years. The Hawaiian scent and ingredients transport me to my favorite place on earth. It’s silky yet deeply moisturizing and has an uplifting, yummy scent of vanilla and citrus. I love that it has heavy duty actives that are good enough for the face like Vitamin C, Astaxanthin, Lupin Seed Extract and Sour Sop Seed Oil. They did not cut any cheap corners with the formulation! Even the glass bottle is super hefty. It feels like a medium-weight oil that is light yet impactful enough to provide long lasting moisturization.

I tried NERRA Dry Body Oil
This is the best organic body oil in spray form that I’ve tried in the last decade. NERRA makes an exquisite body oil that’s a spray, 100% natural and Cosmos Ecocert Organic certified. This is not a typical oily oil and falls into the dry category because it’s fast absorbing and leaves a natural finish. This is perfect for people who don’t want to rub oil all over their body. It’s got a beautiful organic formula of Argan oil, hibiscus seed oil, Bataua fruit oil, Sacha Inchi oil and reship oil. I looove how incredibly convenient it is to apply. The super fine mist sprays across a generous surface area too so I’m not having to spritz every little inch. I do use my hands to rub it further in but it’s not necessary. The jasmine scent is soo intoxicating.

For a body oil that goes beyond just moisturization and actually has healing benefits, I recommend a tallow body oil. Summer Solace Tallow makes the most gorgeous tallow-based body oil out there. It’s full of organic plant oils like reship, borage, argan, castor oil and features a transportive blend of mountain botanicals. The scent is so beautifully grounding and calming with vetiver, gardenia, rain-soaked petrichor, honeysuckle, and sacred Indian sandalwood.
