Silk Therapeutics Review

Silk Therapeutics is a clean, clinical-grade skincare line powered by their own Activated Liquid Silk and formulated with 12 ingredients or less. I first introduced my skin to Silk Therapeutics summer 2019 and am sharing my Silk skincare review for those of you who attracted to simple and effective natural skincare.

Silk Therapeutics Activated Silk

What even IS Silk Therapeutic’s Activated Silk and why is it so special? Silk Therapeutics ACTIVATED SILK™ is pure silk protein from real silk cocoons and water that Silk’s own scientists patented.

After feeding on mulberry leaves, silkworms spin silk cocoons from a single strand of raw silk fiber. This fiber is made up of two proteins:

Fibroin: naturally biocompatible silk protein (and the secret behind ACTIVATED SILK!)

Sericin: a sticky, glue-like protein that keeps the fiber together

Silk Therapeutics’ scientists pioneered a new way to isolate the Fibroin ACTIVATED SILK, and remove sericin, which can be allergenic to the skin. They then convert the silk protein into a liquid that’s biocompatible. The company sources their natural silk cocoons from trusted suppliers, and make our key ingredient and our products ourselves.

Why Activated Silk

Silk Therapeutics believes in the power of its silk technology for the below reasons:

  • Teams with skin’s collagen for a smoother and firmer appearance
  • Replaces entire classes of chemicals commonly found in skincare products
  • Allows them to create potent formulas with just 12 ingredients or less

I tried the Silk Therapeutics Starter Kit which provides enough product for 10 days and includes a variety of products from the line. There’s a different starter kit depending on your skin type: oily, dry or combination skin. I also tried the Silk Therapeutics anti-aging products like their C Advance Vitamin C Serum, Eye Revive, Renewing Peel and their Body Lotion.

I wish I had published this review sooner because the Starter Kits (value $63) used to be discounted to $25 which was amazingly affordable for the number of products offered.

The Silk Therapeutics Starter Kit includes:

  • Refresh – 5 ml
  • Eye Revive – 1 ml (x3)
  • Purely Radiant – 5 ml
  • C Advance – 5 ml
  • Hydra-Rich – 5 ml
  • Renewing Peel – 5 ml

Silk Therapeutics Cleansing Silk

One of my favorites from the Silk Therapeutics Starter Kit was the REFRESH Cleansing Silk. This is such a soothing and gentle cream that feels amazing. I wouldn’t consider this a heavy duty cleanser that will remove makeup but after a first oil cleanse I loved using this cleansing cream to remove residue. As it’s a cream it doesn’t foam but still leaves my skin feeling clean and refreshed.

Silk Therapeutics C Advance Anti Aging Serum

The Silk Therapeutics C Advance Anti Aging Serum is actually a Vitamin C serum AND Hyaluronic Acid serum in one. Out of its 9 ingredients, two of them are 10% vitamin C and hyaluronic acid to target fine lines, dark spots and wrinkles.

This is a very lightweight, clear liquid like serum that instantly feels hydrating and absorbs well. The serum comes with two scent options: unscented or lemongrass. I feel like my skin looks brighter and clearer when I use this serum.

Silk therapeutics eye revive

Silk Therapeutics Eye Revive

The Silk Therapeutics Eye Revive contains their ACTIVATED SILK™ technology and a blend of nourishing oils, caffeine and vitamins C +E to help reduce the look of dark circles, under-eye bags, dryness, fine lines and wrinkles.

This eye cream has an interesting texture and consistency. It’s not a ”cream” in the traditional sense. I don’t know what’s the most accurate way to describe it other than that it feels like a serum-cream hybrid. Because it’s not as occlusive, this would be a good option for those who are prone to milia, the little bumps underneath the eyes.

This eye cream is so easy to apply. You just tap it in and don’t need to do any rubbing or trying to get it to absorb. My undereye area looks instantly more hydrated. As for fine lines, I can’t say but the before and after photo on their site is pretty impressive if accurate.

Silk Therapeutics Body Enrich

I actually found this body lotion very moisturizing for having such simple ingredients (oils, activated silk and aloe). The packaging isn’t particularly beautiful, but I still found myself using this body lotion up very quickly. I do think the price of $42 is a little excessive for a body lotion.
