Vapour Beauty was one of the first luxury organic makeup brands to launch back in 2009 with 100 percent natural makeup that didn’t compromise on performance. Vapour is one of those unicorn clean makeup brands that transcends the line between skincare and makeup. Each product was made entirely of pure minerals, essential oils and organic plant ingredients, and I of course, fell in love. From its inception Vapour Beauty has been dedicated to making an impact on both planet and people and has never wavered from that mission throughout its 12 year history. In this Vapour Beauty review I’ll be covering Vapour Beauty’s rebrand and the best Vapour makeup products.
Vapour Beauty was born in Taos, New Mexico where Krysia Boinis and Kristine Keheley joined forces to design and create Vapour products. From the onset they used their own privately owned USDA Certified Organic facility to create organic makeup to the highest food standard in the US. In 2019 Vapour Beauty snagged an investor and was able to re-brand and re-invent themselves to take their progressive brand to new modern heights. While certain aspects have changed, Vapour Beauty still adheres to their impeccable standards of quality and performance.
Vapour Beauty’s commitment to creating better products in a way that doesn’t harm the planet is next level. Here are some of the ways in which they go above and beyond as a makeup brand:
- 95% of all Vapour products are waterless (Vapour uses the scientific term Anhydrous). This decision goes beyond avoiding water as a filler ingredient, but also because water stress impacts 44% of the world population, a statistic that hits close to him as Vapour is based in the Taos desert.
- Vapour headquarters, manufacturing, warehouse AND research facilities in Taos are 100% solar powered
- All paper, cardboard, glass and packing materials used at our headquarters, manufacturing, warehouse and research facilities in Taos, New Mexico, are reused or recycled.
- Carbon neutral shipping by partnering with Cloverly
- Transitioning to PCR (post consumer recycled) materials in their packaging
- Offering customers a recycling option through Terracycle®
The New Vapour Beauty Rebrand
Vapour Beauty has had a makeover inside and out, moving away from organic and towards a version of clean that will appeal to the wider public. While they have added a small number of safe synthetics, Vapour remains firmly committed to staying away from synthetic colors. The all natural aroma used in Vapour makeup is from essential oils or natural fruits extracts. Through this rebrand, Vapour has been able to utilize the latest advances in green chemistry to launch new and original Vapour products better than ever.
Vapour Beauty remains:
- Cruelty Free Certified by Leaping Bunny
- ‘Champion’ Safety Status by EWG & Campaign for Safe Cosmetics
- Female-owned and operated
- Commited to global organic farming
- Scented only with essential oils & natural fruit flavors
- Committed to an Inclusive complexion range
- Made with Renewable Energy & Passive Solar Daylighting
Vapour Beauty’s Soft Focus Foundation is easily my favorite Vapour makeup product. This silky liquid foundation works beautifully for my dry skin and it lasts all day! There’s so much that I love about the Vapour Beauty foundation, I’ve broken it down into easily digestable bullet points:
- Super silky and smooth texture
- Satin finish that isn’t overly dewy or matte
- Weightless and feels like I’ve got nothing on my skin
- Keeps my dry skin feeling hydrated and nourished
- Light to Medium coverage
- Buildable without turning cakey
- Stays put throughout the day
- Practically a 2-in-1 skincare and makeup product with Frankincense, Myrrh and Lotus in a base of Organic Camellia, Sunflower and Castor seed oils
Vapour Soft Focus Foundation comes in 19 inclusive shades. I wear the lightest shade 090S. This is a foundation that I actually enjoy wearing daily. It doesn’t give me the feeling that I’m covering up my skin but rather enhancing it. For a complete like I like to add some NU Evolution foundation powder on top and bam I am good for the next 8-9 hours. I wish I could have Soft Focus Foundation on tap – it is that good. Note that I have dry skin, so depending on your skin you have a different experience.
Soft Focus Foundation is formulated WITHOUT silicone, dimethicone, FD&C pigments or fillers.
Vapour’s Luminous Foundation stick was one of the original Vapour Organic Beauty products I fell in love with. Vapour re-launched this product in 2021 with even more shades offered and more coverage power. Vapour Luminous Foundation is a cream foundation in stick form that’s great for dry skin because it’s rich and creamy. This foundation stick provides light to medium coverage and leaves skin looking, well, luminous. I wouldn’t call it exactly a dewy finish, but you simply glow. Vapour’s stick foundation spreads and applies seamlessly and lasts all day. If there are two things Vapour does right it’s foundation and color.

One of Vapour’s original products, Aura Multi-Use Stick is one of my top Vapour products. The stick form allows for easy use across cheeks, lips and eyes and it comes in beautiful pigmented shades. Vapour Aura Multi-Use Sticks are formulated with Organic oils like sunflower, castor, avocado, and myrrh and enriched with Salt Tree Resin, Bamboo Stem Extract, Vitamin E and Shea Butter for an elegant skin-nourishing makeup product. With one swipe the Aura Multi-Use Stick provides a hint of sheer color. For a bolder look you need to pack on the swipes. Sadly, Aura Multi-Use only comes in four shades now and I wish they would bring back more of the original shades.
The Ethylhexylglycerin that Vapour uses as a preservative is a synthetic ingredient plant derived from responsibly sourced palm oil.

Vapour Beauty Eyeshadow Quads come in 4 variety of shades that are sophisticated and wearable. I was able to test out their Eyeshadow Quad in Hypnotic which has two matte shades and two shimmer shades. These natural eyeshadow palettes are made with Mineral pigments and provide medium intensity pigmentation.
My review for Vapour’s eyeshadow quads is mixed. On the one hand I like the practical and elegant shades and clean ingredients, but on the other, I didn’t find these AS magnetic and rich as some other natural eyeshadows that I use. Because I‘m an eyeshadow girl through and through, more is more for me. But if you prefer a subtle look with deep shades, you might enjoy Vapour’s eyeshadow quads.

I personally am loving the Vapour Beauty Natural Brow Definer and have been using it daily to fill in my brows. It’s a dual ended brown pencil with a spoolie brush on one end to groom brows and the product on the other end. My eyebrow hairs are jet black but I find that using a dark brown eyebrow pencil makes my brows look way too dark. Vapour’s brow pencil comes in two shades, and I went for Dusk a natural light brown versus the darker Storm. This cool toned ash brown really does look so natural even though it’s lighter than my actual brow hairs.

Even though this is called a gloss, Vapour Beauty’s Elixir Gloss is according to the site a tinted lip oil. This explains the smaller packaging, which I was confused about at first. Honestly, it feels exactly like a lip gloss and I would have never guessed it’s a tinted lip oil on my own.
Vapour Elixir Gloss has the right amount of shimmer and is filled with thoughtful ingredients like Iceland Moss, Lemon Balm. Organic Green Tea, and fresh organic fruit flavors of Apricot + Fig. It feels slick and hydrating when applied and provides a decent amount of color.
Ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil*, Castor Isostearate Beeswax Succinate†, Mica‡, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Cera Alba (Beeswax)*, Flavor/Aroma (Fig)*, Flavor/Aroma (Plum Apricot)*, Stevia Rebaudiana (Stevia) Leaf Extract†, Melissa Officinalis (Lemon Balm) Leaf Extract*, Wildcrafted Commiphora Myrrha (Myrrh) Gum†, Cetraria Islandica (Iceland Moss) Extract*, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract*, Tocopherol (Vitamin E)†, Phenethyl Alcohol†, Ethylhexylglycerin†; May Contain +/-: CI 77891/Titanium Dioxide; CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499/Iron Oxides; CI 75470/Carmine
I would not be able to recommend the Vapour Beauty mascara. This formula just wouldn’t transfer well to my lashes and did not do much for me.
The Vapour Beauty Velvet Gloss is highly unique and I really enjoyed this balm-gloss hybrid product. This gloss comes in a pot and has this silky yet creamy yet emollient texture. The shade I used, which was a bright berry shade called Nomad, was stunning and made my lips look so shiny. Velvet Gloss does not contain any shimmer. Sadly, Velvet Gloss only comes in three shades.
